About this listen

A prequel to the New York Times best-selling novel Queen's Shadow, further exploring the life of the iconic Padmé Amidala!

When 14-year-old Padmé Naberrie wins the election for queen of Naboo, she adopts the name Amidala and leaves her family to the rule from the royal palace. To keep her safe and secure, she'll need a group of skilled handmaidens who can be her assistants, confidantes, defenders, and decoys. Each girl is selected for her particular talents, but it will be up to Padmé to unite them as a group. When Naboo is invaded by forces of the Trade Federation, Queen Amidala and her handmaidens will face the greatest test - of themselves and of each other.

It was so great. I love the interactive sounds. It made the story come alive.

In love!

We didn’t NEED a story set during this time but I’m glad we got it! First if anyone was wondering, you can definitely listen to this before Queen’s Shadow. While it is a “prequel” to it, nothing quite gives anything away from there.

This is really just an expansion on some small parts from Queen’s Shadow given more depth. Depth that adds a lot to TPM also well towards the end. This was great to see Padmé’s character in this way and how she ruled as a queen if it was for a short time before TPM.

The only “critique” I have is that the last two sections are basically TPM from the other characters POV. Which I hesitate to call it a critique because it’s a great expansion on what was already there.

Great “Lore” Expansion

I really enjoyed this story and would probably more in this line concerning events with the queen and her handmaidens.

Good Story

Such a great book. Love that it was narrated by Catherine Taber who plays Padme in The Clone Wars. We need more audio books with the actors narrating! Having Padme’s back story makes her story even more tragic.

Amazing job!

I had no idea that there was so much behind the Queen and her handmaid's. As I listened to the book I couldn't help but to look up each name of the different girls to see where they were in Episode One. As a man who grew up with sisters and now a father to a beautiful daughter I found alot of the conversations between the girls to be charming. The last few chapters did give me a good range of emotions. I'm excited to learn more about the girls and their journeys!

A funny lore expansion

Bruh, EK Johnston blew it out of the water. The amazing story that took us through The Phantom Menace and ended with Padmé’s legacy was just perfect. I got chills.

I was not expecting that this book will be good because the queen shadow was not. This explains more of the story of padmè during phantom menace. although, I hope E. K Johnson put more emphasis on Padmè's thoughts when she first met Anakin, but I understand that everything is already explained in the movie, but still it will be good to know what's on her mind other than finding out what the hand maidens doing during those times. Over all it's a good book.

Better than the first book.

I went in with high expectations based on things I bad heard about this book, and they were more than met. I cannot recommend this enough, it expands on the events leading up to and including The Phantom menace in an awesome way.

A fantastic perspective on the events leading up to and including The Phantom Menace.
