About this listen

Have the activities you used to enjoy left you feeling empty and disconnected lately? Are you struggling to find your purpose or direction? Do you feel like you're too damaged to change or don't know where to start?

It seems like everyone is turning to God these days, but what happens when you can’t stop sinning?

”No matter what behavior I fed into, I was never satisfied.”

Sex gave me a high but depleted my soul.

Social media allowed me to “like” toxicity.

My pride told me I wasn’t the problem.

In a world filled with toxic influences and endless distractions, it's easy to lose ourselves in pursuing temporary highs and instant gratification….

In her inspiring Christian self help memoir Starving Toxicity, Janae shares her transformative journey of self-discovery and personal growth, offering readers a roadmap to overcoming the struggles of the modern world as they embrace a life of obedience and self-discipline.

For years, she sought purpose in all the wrong places, but no matter how much she indulged, she was never truly satisfied. Finding the courage to confront her pride and turn to God, she discovers her destiny and lasting fulfillment.

Janae takes us through her spiritual journey as a lukewarm Christian struggling to hear the voice of God. She discusses topics that ranges from the influence of social media, the danger of lukewarm living, family dysfunction, complex relationships, depression, and addiction as she struggles to find her place in society. She candidly shares her experiences with sex, lust, and fornication and their toll on her mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Feeling disconnected and willing to part from her immoral lifestyle, she dedicates 21 days to fasting and prayer and discovers her purpose and the path to true fulfillment. With the courage to embrace celibacy, she finds a new kind of love, one that is pure, patient, and kind.

Janae learns that true happiness requires growth, self-discovery, faith and commitment to God.

I would highly recommended to listen this book.

I was expecting the cookie cutter recipe that most Christian books use but this was anything but that. I was thoroughly entertained by this book.

The book is very well organized

I'm a huge fan of self-help books! Every time I finish reading one, I feel this amazing surge of positive vibes and motivation to make some serious changes in my life. Right now, I'm feeling so pumped up and oddly calm, if you can believe it. This story hit me on a personal level in so many ways. It gives me hope that things can turn around for me too. I've had my fair share of parental marriage drama and childhood trauma, and on top of that, I battle with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. So trust me when I say that this book has struck a chord with me. It means the world to me, and I'm truly grateful for it.

Really good audiobook to listen!!!

The book tells an incredible story of going from a life filled with sexual sin and toxicity to finding faith and redemption. The author does an awesome job describing her chaotic and dysfunctional childhood, showing how she learned to roll with the punches and adapt to the unpredictable environment. The honest account of her struggles with sexual sin is eye-opening, as they come to the realization that their lifestyle wasn't in line with their Christian beliefs and God's plan for them. It's a journey that's relatable and inspiring, reminding us of the power of personal growth and finding our way back to a meaningful life.

It is very informative and a great audiobook

This amazing book offers real-life experiences and guidance to help others triumph through prayer and hearing from God. It's a life-changing read that tackles addictions, stagnation, and regret. The author's own journey, particularly during their fast, shows how accepting God and following His guidance can lead to success. It acknowledges that as Christians, we may stumble in our efforts to grow closer to God due to our habits, but emphasizes the importance of picking ourselves up, seeking the Holy Spirit's help, and taking gradual steps towards overcoming our weaknesses. The book serves as a powerful reminder that perfection and overcoming habits require continual progress with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Taking Alot of This Advice! It's Working!

I really loved this book! It doesn't come off as a self-help book, but alot of the methods that the author used in this book are working for me, also. And most of all, it's made me think deeply about some of the mental blocks I have in my life & issues with identity that may be in my way. It's a really stimulating read (or listen) and super relatable for 25 - 30 somethings women & men; I haven't read any other books that talk about experiences in the club, with "cut buddies" & the role that music plays in sanctification but they all are big stumbling blocks in the way of young Christians. The book honestly felt like I was listening to a friend telling me her story & I'm on the edge of my seat! Would definitely recommend! Will be listening a second time.
