About this listen

When the nanovirus spread, he was forced to abandon everything.

But when the EMP strikes, will anything be left to reclaim?

Garrett is an architect, of sorts. A renovator of unique dwellings, he makes his living creating luxury doomsday bunkers for a wealthy, paranoid clientele. He never thought he’d end up living in one....

As a mysterious “nano virus” ravages the world above, Garrett hunkers down in a former missile silo in the New Mexico desert. Underground, he’s as equipped and prepared as can be, save for the grinding loneliness, and mounting horror of witnessing the fall of human civilization.

Then one night, everything changes. A series of blasts in the sky, and then all of a sudden, every electronic device is rendered useless, including - he hopes - the nanobots responsible for decimating the population.

In the wake of the EMP, Garrett’s doomsday bunker goes from survivalist haven to ready-made grave. He knows he’s going to have to leave, but has no idea what will be waiting for him, or what kind of people will have survived to tell the tale....

This is the first book in the At Any Cost series. It’s set within the same universe as the Enter Darkness series.

Great Listen

Survive the Dark is a brilliantly written Post-Apocalyptic Thriller, and a fantastic addition to the genre. I was utterly immersed in the plot and the outcome. K. M. Fawkes is an exceptional storyteller, captivating the readers and listeners with excellent world-building and characters with depth to their personalities.

The narration by Andrew B. Wehrlen is outstanding. He emulated the characters' personalities and emotions brilliantly, bringing the entirety of the story to life. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Overall, Survive the Dark is a fantastic listen; I highly recommend it. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Fawkes does it again

I love this author, I live this narrator.... so of course I love this book! You can’t go wrong with either of them. Ready to start the next part of their adventure with G, A & J.... they are the ones I am most interested in. This ‘world’ that we get to revisit with Fawkes is exciting and scary.

A better series

Have listen to Enter the Darkness with Brad who is or I feel he lost it and this is due to Brad constantly having conversations with himself and maybe what happen to a person like Brad in his world were you not sure if yourself or have confidence in yourself. In this series you meet Garrett who is prepared, has witt and determination. also he sees what is happening and he feeling the pain of it as it happens a boy dies on the front walk way were he works and then finds out his nephew, sister and her husband has died or sick with virus and there no cure. Garrett is working in New Mexico when this all comes down working in an old missile silo to convert it to a disaster shelter for a client which he finds out dies from the virus. If the EMPS had not been set off he could have live comfortably there but with EMPS he last power that controlled the intake, and purification of air and he lost all capabilities to communicate so he had to leave.
This whole series is the adventures of Garrett who is a good person and wants to try to save people and give whatever can to start a safe community for survivors even if it means to fight and kill to get what they want and need to survive but at the same time help the less fortunate and if possible help them to get into the community and feel they belong and are protected.
This is a good series and I do recommend the series and also the series called Enter the Darkness with Brad.

Good story

At any cost. Survive the dark. By K. M. Fawkes is a post apocalypse story.
A short story about power and survival. It has good characters and a good story line.

The story doesn’t end in a cliffhanger but you can see where it would go on. As things are just started.

There is no corse Language in it, or sex scenes. But there is mention of sex and rape in the story. But it is only a mention. Although there is some violence it does not go into great details.

Narrator Andrew B. Wehrlen does a good job tell the story. Andrew gives each character alive with their own individual voices.

Misled

i found this book categorized under Fiction> Gay & lesbian. i was ecstatic to find Post-apocalyptic/ survival thriller featuring a main character who is Non-binary and hoping it was not too campy but was lied to. i'm pretty sure they categorized this book wrong (i'm going to ask support later). the book came out recently so there wasn't much info on it or a squeal so maybe he could be bi later on in the series? but judging from how it ended i'm confident he isn't gay...yet.

The story was decent but a cookie cutter, it follows a lot of same formula you would find in any Post-Apocalyptic genre, nothing too surprising or exciting happens that wouldn't normally expect. maybe if the author went into more detail about the nano-virus or how the EMP changed the world it would have made the story more interesting. i don't want sounds too harsh but the dialog and everything was bland.

The story wasn't long and narrator was the only reason i listen too the end. Andrew B. Wehrlen made me more invested in the main character and is the only reason i maybe consider listening to the squeal.

OMG please end!

I paid for it.. so I finished listening. But the writing was bad, the storyline wasn't developed, and the main character was confusing. The plot was drawn out, then the author writes the ending by having the characters miraculously, accidently get everything they need to escape!!! "Oh look the guards forgot to lock my door. Oh look they left a set of keys to every door right here for me find. It's a military base but no cameras." I will not be listening to any more in this series!
