Publisher's summary

In a powerless world, only the strong will survive the lawless....

After an EMP cripples the country, Colby and Alicia embark on the dangerous trek out of the city to survive. On the treacherous journey home to Humboldt County, a deadly encounter leads to Colby being brought back from the brink of death by strangers. Waking up and suffering amnesia, can he stay alive long enough to unravel what happened?

Meanwhile, in Humboldt, the battle for survival continues as food, fuel, and medicine shortages force locals to the point of desperation. After Sheriff Dan Wilder discovers three bodies hanging from the Alderpoint bridge, he struggles to maintain order and keep the feuding Strickland and Riker families from tearing each other apart. Amid new threats rising, a mysterious group enters the town with an offer he can’t refuse, but can they be trusted?

Survive the Lawless is the second explosive book in A Powerless World saga. This pause-resisting post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series is about two ordinary, feuding families fighting for survival in a world gone dark.

Wrong answer!

This second volume centers on the escalating feud between the Rikers and the Stricklands. Colby is slowly recovering his memory as events, locations, or conversations jog his thoughts. At first, I thought it odd that Colby had no problem shooting people but perhaps muscle memory had more to do with that. Alicia and Kane are unfortunately absent for most of this volume. I missed Kane, he is my favorite. Additional characters and town history are revealed as we follow Colby’s investigation into his memory. The story drags a little but it is still good. I look forward to the next volume to discover how this all turns out. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

2nd in Series

I’m totally enjoying this series but recommend reading/listen to 1st book to understand the characters. Love the characters of Colby, Alicia, Daisy and Kane (the dog). It was a surprise Colby could survive at all. It is full of violent action especially due to Spider with a lot of riff raff between the Strickland’s and Riker’s, who will be the victors. Cannot wait for Defend The Homestead is on audible. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank You

Fascinating!

I loved this book! The story had my attention from the beginning. It makes you think about what would happen if and EMP happen to our world. It is extremely fascinating to follow the people through out their ordeal. I would definitely recommend this story!
The narrator does a fabulous job with the characters and the voices of each character making it easy to distinguish between all the characters. He does an amazing job.

Trouble Brews in Humboldt County

The 2nd book of Jack Hunt’s ‘Powerless World’ series begins with a surprising and absolutely terrific twist. On his way from LA to Humboldt County, Colby is nearly killed and when he recovers, he has amnesia. What follows is a story-line that turns into a mystery. Where are Alicia and Kane? Can Colby find those responsible for his injuries? Will he recover his memories?

At the same time, the Rikers and Stricklands are playing the retaliation game after the murder of three Strickland brothers. While Mama Riker and Hank Strickland each think they have the upper hand in Humboldt, the reader learns there are other players they should worry about. And Sheriff Dan, bless him, is out of his depth in the chaos.

Jack Hunt writes my favorite action scenes; this book being no exception. He has a wonderful ability to create suspense and tension that has the reader on the edge of their seat. The plotting is terrific. With elliptical storytelling, he connects an event from the start of the book to a tragic consequence at the end. I had an ‘a-ha moment' and got a little teary-eyed. This book definitely held my interest and I am anxious to read the next one of the series.

For me, Miles Meili is the best narrator of the post-apocalyptic genre. Everything about his performance, the cadence and tone perfectly suit Hunt’s stories.

This audiobook was given to me as a free review copy, that I requested, and have now written this voluntary opinion.

Highly recommended.

A good story continues, after some transition

This continues to be a really great series, I'm totally hooked. This novel is more of a transition from where everything started off in LA as they make their way north. That's alot of territory to cover. Some writers fill this with endless fights, blood gore and no character connections. I appreciate the Mr. Hunt took a more novel tact.

I don't give away plots or details, the writers summary does that better than I could hope to. I can tell you that this audiobook was a great and worthwhile listen. I was totally engrossed in the story, completing this in one weekend listen.

Miles Meili's narration here is his usual excellent performance.

Great sequel!

This is one of those rare situations where the sequel is better than the original. That seems to be a rare occurrence in book series. The first book was great but this one was better and very unpredictable!

Plus or Minus six hour episodes is greedy

I had high hopes for the overall context of story and characters . Unfortunately the shark was jumped one too many times. The plausibility factor weakened to to the point where I won’t be back. Especially when factored with the short episodic length.
