Publisher's summary

An epic case of mistaken identity puts a teen looking for a hookup on the run from both the FBI and a murderous cult in this compulsively listenable thriller.

Finding himself alone in a posh New York City hotel room for the night, Aidan does what any red-blooded 17-year-old would do - tries to hook up with someone new. But that lapse in judgement leads him to a room with a dead guy and a mysterious flash drive...two things that spark an epic case of mistaken identity that puts Aidan on the run - from the authorities, his friends, his family, the people who are out to kill him - and especially from his own troubled past.

Inspired by a Hitchcock classic, this whirlwind mistaken-identity caper has razor-sharp humor, devastating emotional stakes, and a thrilling storyline with an explosive conclusion to make this the most compelling YA novel of 2019.

Critic reviews

"I read it in one sitting because I couldn't tear myself away. A funny, sexy knockout of a book, and a new pinnacle for page-turning gay YA for me. I'm obsessed." (Cale Dietrich, author of The Love Interest)

"Equal parts hilarious and heart racing, Swipe Right for Murder crackles with enough energy to rival its New York City backdrop." (Kara Thomas, author of The Cheerleaders and The Darkest Corners)

"What could have been just a clever reconstruction of classic mystery conventions is elevated by wry humor and genuine emotional intensity. As a thriller, it's twisted and engaging; as a character study, it has lingering, affecting aftershocks." (Booklist *starred review*)

What a Ride!

I'll admit: I had a hard time sympathizing with, and connecting to, Aidan at first: his status, his friends, his whole world... but very quickly, I found myself immersed in a whirlwind of high-stakes action and thrills. The novel is political and poignant. Aidan quickly becomes a character for whom you are rooting, someone for whom you care a great deal. He is complicated, wounded, and, at his core, he's longing to be loved.

At various points throughout the narrative, I found myself wholly engaged. I laughed several times--Milman knows how to navigate humor--and I even found myself replaying a scene at one point. Aidan shares great chemistry with a whole list of the novel's characters, from his best friend, Jackson, to the mysterious Shiloh. The antagonist of the novel is also strangely provocative, further shaped by the brilliance of the narrator (Jay Ben Markson's voice is very smooth and refined -- easy on the ears).

I loved this novel. Milman definitely has a way with words--his voice oscillates between lightheartedness and the visceral--and he has clearly researched the world of cyberterrorism and espionage. I am definitely a fan, and I would love to give this novel a read/listen again in the future!

Disappointed

No where as good as other James Patterson other books. Sadly his books have lost the intensity of his past books.

Worst book ever

I can't believe James Patterson would sign his name to this book. I was so disappointed in the story.

Just didn't care for it.

Just not my type of book. I also have no desire to hear about anyone 17 hooking up every chance they get,
let alone with your best friends father. And he is underage but gets to drink at restaurants and even though
the author tried to explain it, this 17 year old is better trained than trained criminals? Just a little too far fetched.
Nah...Just didn't buy it.

Dull

Hey OK I've been a massive James Patterson fan for years not sure what was going on in this book it wasn't attention gripping despite the title seeming like it is I barely made it to chapter 5 before i started to dose and fall asleep Hey I did try to make this book work and try to get through it but I just couldn't get and if im having to force myself to listen/read it just to see if anything is going to happen its just not worth it.........as much as i love james patterson and his usual work this one was a no for me.
