About this listen
LAPD Detective Harry Bosch seeks justice for the forgotten in this original story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Connelly
An anonymous tip puts Bosch on a case that has remained unsolved for decades, the vicious stabbing of a teenage boy whose body was found in an abandoned Old Hollywood restaurant.
Cold cases are often the toughest: With no body, no murder scene, and no fingerprints, Bosch nevertheless gets lucky when DNA evidence from the murder weapon points to a known killer. But the DA insists that science alone is not enough - he needs the case to be bulletproof before he'll take it to court.
Determined to speak for those who can no longer speak for themselves, Bosch has one chance to wrench a confession out of a cold-blooded killer, or risk letting him walk free for good.
In this gripping, never-before-published story by "master of the crime thriller" (Huffington Post ) Michael Connelly, Detective Harry Bosch quenches his thirst for justice and shows why he is "one of the most popular and enduring figures in American crime fiction" (Chicago Tribune).

Story
Two women have gone missing, and LAPD detective Harry Bosch has a strong suspicion that an avid fisherman named Denninger is the culprit. Bosch needs something stronger than a suspicion to bring Denninger in, but all he has are a handful of photos - prior mug shots and pictures of Denninger posing with his prize fish. It's not much to go on, and Bosch is running out of time, which is why he calls in FBI agent Rachel Walling. What she sees in these photos could blow his case wide open.

The man most hated by the LAPD - a black lawyer who has made his name by bringing lawsuits alleging racism and brutality by police officers - has been found murdered on the eve of a high-profile trial. The list of suspects includes half the police force. And Harry Bosch is the detective chosen to head the investigation. The political dangers of the case are huge. If it's not investigated fairly, the public outcry could make the Rodney King riots look tame. But a full investigation will take Bosch into the ugliest corners of law enforcement.

Story
In 1984, John Thompson was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of a prominent white man in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was sent to Angola Prison and confined to his cell for 23 hours a day. However, Thompson adamantly proclaimed his innocence and just needed lawyers who believed that his trial had been mishandled and would step up to the plate against the powerful DA’s office. But who would fight for Thompson’s innocence when he didn’t have an alibi for the night of the murder and there were two key witnesses to confirm his guilt?

Story
In January 1982, an elderly white widow was found brutally murdered in the small town of Greenwood, South Carolina. Police immediately arrested Edward Lee Elmore, a semiliterate, mentally retarded black man with no previous felony record. His only connection to the victim was having cleaned her gutters and windows, but barely ninety days after the victim’s body was found, he was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. Elmore had been on death row for eleven years when a young attorney named Diana Holt first learned of his case.

Story
After his first grisly crime, Harvey Louis Carignan beat a death sentence and continued to manipulate, rape, and bludgeon women to death - using want ads to lure his young female victims. And time after time, justice was thwarted by a killer whose twisted legal genius was matched only by his sick savagery. Here, complete with the testimony of women who suffered his unspeakable sexual abuses and barely escaped with their lives and of the police who at last put him behind bars, is one of the most shattering and thought-provoking true-crime stories of our time.

It's a short story!
I've read or listened to all things Bosch, so I didn't want to miss this snippet. It's straightforward and probably based on a true event when Connolly was a reporter.
Len Cariou is the narrator, as he is for most of the series. Connolly is one of my favorite authors, so I have to say this narrator reads this series more like a documentary. He does a horrible job with women, something many guys with deep voices seem to have little problems doing.
Nevertheless it's always good to hear from Harry Bosch.

Great if you like Harry,Michael and Len
JUST BE CAREFUL... I automatically, instantly buy anything by Michael Connelly so I didn't realize I burned a credit for a book that was priced at 2.63 since it was only 50 minutes long. I am pretty sure they'll let me pay cash retroactively but better if you know ahead of time. I HOPE this is like last time he did this...the Short story was released a few months before the new Bosch novel. I just can't find any data on when it is coming...here or on Connelly's site.

First Connelly Dissappointment
Any additional comments?
Cariou is Harry Bosh. He was, as usual, excellent.
I am a huge Connelly fan. I've read all of his books to-date and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. When I discovered this and a couple of other short-stories, I was eager to get my next dose. After listening to it, I feel let down. The story builds in typical Harry Bosch fashion and then it ends. The impression I was left with was this was either a concept for a future book that the author found and released or that he was past a deadline and had to get it submitted, so he ended it where he was.
Still a Connelly fan, but disappointed.
