About this listen

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The epic, definitive story of Sylvanas Windrunner, one of World of Warcraft’s most enduring and iconic characters, as chronicled by bestselling author Christie Golden.

Ranger-General. Banshee Queen. Warchief. Sylvanas Windrunner has borne many titles. To some, she is a hero—to others, a villain. But whether in pursuit of justice, vengeance, or something more, Sylvanas has always sought to control her own destiny.

The power to achieve her goals has never been closer, as Sylvanas works alongside the Jailer to liberate all Azeroth from the prison of fate. Her final task? Secure the fealty of their prisoner—King Anduin Wrynn.

To succeed, Sylvanas will be forced to reflect on the harrowing path that brought her to the Jailer’s side and to reveal her truest self to her greatest rival. Here, Sylvanas’s complete story is laid bare: the breaking of the Windrunner family and her rise to Ranger- General; her own death at the hands of Arthas and her renewed purpose in founding the Forsaken; the moment she first beheld the Maw and understood the true consequences of what lay beyond the veil of death.

But as her moment of victory draws near, Sylvanas Windrunner will make a choice that may ultimately come to define her. A choice that’s hers to make.

Patty Mattson is amazing as a narrator. She brings life to Sylvanas (haha), but sometimes I feel like Sylvanas' choices are far too ignorant for such a smart character. Literally everyone else that understands what's going on seems to be suspicious of the motivations of her "partner", but her.

Amazing voice acting

Loved the book, the writing, and especially the first half. Christie Golden really helped bring perspective and explained this character.

Great story! Fleshed out the character

Patty Mattson again.l does a great job voicing Sylvanas. Christie Golden did an excellent job of making sense of the story if the game, but this story should have been IN the game.

Good story, doesn't justify the game

this fun story gives a lot of background on the main character in warcraft. it's was fun hearing how questing as a horde player tied into actions of the game. I remember returning the necklace to sylvanas and here's my character mentioned. "adventurer".

as with audio book, the narrator does a wonderful job voicing all the characters. my only complaint is that when I heard her doing Zovaal's lines, I associated that voice with another character, Gollum from LOTR. this made me chuckle often when I heard his dialogue.

sylvanas origin story

I've been a fan of the Warcraft universe for 20 years, but it's always been from a gameplay story point of view that all began with Warcraft 3. Six months ago, I learned I have had a learning disability my whole life, and now that it's being treated, I'm developing an appreciation for so much more. Sylvanas, being one of my favorite characters, is the first book I've listened to that's part of the Warcraft universe and I was completely mesmerized with joyful delight by the whole thing. The narrator did a brilliant job reading and while I'm not sure if this story falls under, "retconning", I can say that it fills in several gaps for me personally. Highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to know more about Sylvanas and the Warcraft universe as a whole.

Really enjoyed listening to this.
