Publisher's summary

This volume presents some of Arthur Conan Doyle's unduly neglected masterworks of suspense. Each begins in a quietly factual way, which makes all the more dramatic the crescendo of fear and puzzlement that ensues as each startling new circumstance is revealed. Even without his supremely logical brainchild Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle shows that his tales are unbeatable for thrills and excitement. This is a great opportunity for the listener to discover a new facet of the master's ability to mystify and enthrall.

Good but not great

I really like the Sherlock Holmes stories and I also like classic horror stories, so when I found out that Conan Doyle had written short horror stories I had to check this out.

I have to admit that I was underwhelmed. I did not really most of the stories that interesting or compelling. Keeping in mind that 19th Century horror is not like today's Steven King or anything like that. They are, by and large, more tame and just "feel" more archaic. That is not the problem. I was expecting that.

That said, I hate to say it but there was really nothing much to most of them.

Oh well.
