Author Doug Lemov offers the essential tools of the teaching craft so that you can unlock the talent and skill waiting in your students, no matter how many previous classrooms, schools, or teachers have been unsuccessful. This must-have resource is filled with concrete, specific, and actionable classroom teaching techniques that you can start using in your classroom tomorrow.
Among the techniques:
- Technique #1: No Opt Out. How to move students from the blank stare or stubborn shrug to giving the right answer every time.
- Technique #35: Do It Again. When students fail to successfully complete a basic task... from entering the classroom quietly to passing papers around... doing it again, doing it right, and doing it perfectly, results in the best consequences.
- Technique #38: No Warnings. If you're angry with your students, it usually means you should be angry with yourself. This technique shows how to effectively address misbehaviors in your classroom.

Where does Teach Like a Champion rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love the book. I have been teaching for 25 years and recently began to feel confused about teaching. I love change but it seems that the focus now it constant change for the sake of change. This book put so much in perspective. Confirmed many of my beliefs and gave me back joy of my profession!!Fabulous book for all teachers!!

What disappointed you about Teach Like a Champion?
This is a book of classroom techniques as reported by a charter school administrator. While the techniques may have merit they are unsubstantiated by research. This was the only text selected for an online class that I took. I feel more academic books should be used for college credit courses. What do you think your next listen will be?
A novel.Would you be willing to try another one of Grover Gardner’s performances?
Grover Gardner is gruff and authoritarian when he reads a text. Listening to him was exhausting. I sped the reading rate up to 1.25 so that the laborious text would unfold more quickly. What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I felt distressed that mediocre classroom techniques could be inflated to a book of this length. The sentence structure used a lot of words to say very little. This book does not follow the form of conventional, academic writing.Any additional comments?
Seek a text that has been substantiated with research citations rather than one person's recollections.Unsubstantiated claims
