About this listen
In this captivating and heartwarming romance from award-winning screenwriter Michael Elliot (Just Wright, Brown Sugar) and executive producer Queen Latifah, Oakland-bred LaVeesha “Vee” Gilliam (Coco Jones) is a determined single mother of an autistic son and a gifted aspiring coder. When Vee loses her job as a food-services worker at the onsite restaurant at Grapengine, a large Silicon Valley tech company, she’s unable to pay for her son’s much-needed specialized education. By a twist of fate, mistaken identity, and her tech skills, Vee meets Troy Wilson (Keith Powers), the company’s wealthy founder and CEO and a wunderkind in the tech industry, who believes that Vee is a college-educated techie who works at his company. Fate meets Vee’s raw talent, ideas, and work ethic, and both her career and romance blooms–but what will happen when Vee’s true identity is revealed?

Fall in line or get replaced. That's how my businesses operate. Being named the Dallas representative for the Mr. Black Organization was an honor, not a job. However, it's not easy to change the way someone maneuvers. I was determined to make this year's Juneteenth celebration unlike anything this city had seen before, starting with a road trip focused on Black culture. I had a plan, my purpose was clear, and my team was set. Until a wild-card photographer got thrown in the mix.

Shy, bookish, and admittedly awkward, Lily Greene has always felt inadequate compared to the rest of her accomplished family, who strive for Black excellence. She dreams of becoming a children’s books editor, but she’s been frustratingly stuck in the nonfiction division for years without a promotion in sight. Lily finds escapism in her correspondences with her favorite fantasy author, and what begins as two lonely people connecting over email turns into a tentative friendship and possibly something else Lily won’t let herself entertain—until he ghosts her without a word.

Story
Touré Wallace and Niomi Spencer were close friends at Finley College, the prestigious HBCU they attended. The attraction that simmered between them every semester was a question they never got to ask or answer before soaring ambitions launched them to opposite corners of the world. Both chased their dreams of grit and glamor as high-profile journalists. They got it all...except a shot at being more than friends. Years later, Touré is an award-winning investigative journalist and Niomi is America's most popular morning-show host, but they both feel like something’s missing.

Stable, safe, predictable—all words that aptly describe Professor Nadia Day’s life. An existence she’s carefully crafted for herself despite her unconventional upbringing and what, to her, is an unseemly past. The last thing she would ever do is rock the boat when it comes to her life and livelihood. When retired football player and single dad, Nathan Moore, walks into her psychology classroom, all fine and dreadlocked, he does more than rock her boat—he rocks her world and causes her to question her buttoned-up existence.

Great production and great story!
This story, though short, was packed full of humor, wit, and love that went beyond the traditional romance. What stood out to me most was Vee’s love for her son, who has autism. She did whatever it took to get the best care for him, and it paid off! Highly recommend

Entertaining & Cute
What a cute & entertaining HR nightmare (no, SERIOUSLY, how is the head of HR not unemployed after this?! 🤣) Enjoyed it from beginning to end. The fact that Coco voiced more than one character made it difficult to parse out who was speaking when in some parts. That said, I really enjoyed this story, and I hope more get made!

I enjoyed this audiobook. The plot was great and the voice actors did a great job. I absolutely enjoy interactive audiobooks and this one fit the bill. Coco Jones has the voice for audiobooks so I hope she does more of them.

This didn't feel like a book. It felt more like listening to a show. I missed getting insight into how people felt and what they were thinking. Even still, I really enjoyed this story. Very well done.

Definitely different in a good way
Great, unique story! I loved the characters and the full cast performance. But the ending came on too quickly. This book could easily been twice as long and still been great. Just add in the details after the change-up. I won't be a spoiler but Mr. Elliot let me down with this ending. It's like something happened in his real life and he said "Ok. We'll just stop it right there". Again, I'm disappointed but it's still a good read.
