About this listen

She gets people to confess their crimes for a living. He knows she’s hiding a terrible secret. It’s time for the truth to come out…

Poe Webb, host of a popular true crime podcast, invites people to anonymously confess crimes they’ve committed to her audience. She can’t guarantee the police won’t come after her “guests,” but her show grants simultaneous anonymity and instant fame—a potent combination that’s proven difficult to resist. After an episode recording, Poe usually erases both criminal and crime from her mind.

But when a strange and oddly familiar man appears on her show, Poe is forced to take a second look. Not only because he claims to be her mother’s murderer from years ago, but because Poe knows something no one else does. Her mother’s murderer is dead.

Poe killed him.

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Dead Girl in 2A and The New Neighbor comes a chilling new thriller that forces the question: are murderers always the bad guys?

This book was so incredibly good! Once I started reading, I knew it was going to be one of those books that I just could not put down. Unfortunately, I had to a few times, but my mind stayed on what had happened up to those points and what would happen after. Each time, I was super anxious to get back to reading because I needed to know.

Poe, a true crime Podcaster, experienced something as a child that no one should ever have to witness, the brutal death of her mother. She came face to face with her mom's killer who, before departing, left her with a message. "She didn't use the safe word." Poe, when older, lured in her mother's killer and enacted her revenge. Only, now, someone else is claiming to have killed Poe's mother, and he's taken to harassing and stalking Poe. Did Poe kill an innocent man instead of the one who actually killed her mother? Why has this man waited so long and is just now coming for her? Who is he really?

A CAPTIVATING AND UNPUTDOWNABLE READ!!!

Thought I figured it all out but then I was wrong. I enjoyed listening to this story, it is fast-paced and the performances were also great! Worth the credit.

Loved the story

I thought the story was a good one. I didn't like the attitude of the main character at times as it didn't really seem realistic if she was in the situation she was in. The last two hours were way too long and drug out. I got annoyed at all the long winded thoughts that didn't get closer to the end. Narrator was great.

Good story.

What a great book 2 characters playing cat, and mouse, trying to discover the truth. The book has 100 chapters, but the chapters are short and it’s a really good read with some QR codes. That you can use, so everything seems realistic.

Great psychological thriller

What a great book. I was captivated from the start. It was even more compelling that parts of the present were told then it flipped back to various times and dates for background. It worked seamlessly! I couldn’t get enough. Poe is absolutely believable in the position she had been put in. A lot of pain and clear vulnerability is evident with the raw exposure of the truth and the possible consequences of her involvement. I think most of us can relate to at least some of her choices especially when fueled by so many emotions. Very much enjoyed listening to this book!

Both narrators were so good. Patrick Zeller is fantastic with his portrayal of Poe’s nemesis, so creepy. Allyson Ryan was excellent giving Poe her voice and the full range of emotions she experienced!!

So twisted and intense

Wasn’t a bad story. Had a modern twist with podcast, but knew who the killer was right away. She was a whiny character.

Kinda predictable

Great story that hooked me from the beginning. The narrators were spot one and made it easy to finish in one day.
