About this listen

She gets people to confess their crimes for a living. He knows she’s hiding a terrible secret. It’s time for the truth to come out…

Poe Webb, host of a popular true crime podcast, invites people to anonymously confess crimes they’ve committed to her audience. She can’t guarantee the police won’t come after her “guests,” but her show grants simultaneous anonymity and instant fame—a potent combination that’s proven difficult to resist. After an episode recording, Poe usually erases both criminal and crime from her mind.

But when a strange and oddly familiar man appears on her show, Poe is forced to take a second look. Not only because he claims to be her mother’s murderer from years ago, but because Poe knows something no one else does. Her mother’s murderer is dead.

Poe killed him.

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Dead Girl in 2A and The New Neighbor comes a chilling new thriller that forces the question: are murderers always the bad guys?

A CAPTIVATING AND UNPUTDOWNABLE READ!!!

This book was so incredibly good! Once I started reading, I knew it was going to be one of those books that I just could not put down. Unfortunately, I had to a few times, but my mind stayed on what had happened up to those points and what would happen after. Each time, I was super anxious to get back to reading because I needed to know.

Poe, a true crime Podcaster, experienced something as a child that no one should ever have to witness, the brutal death of her mother. She came face to face with her mom's killer who, before departing, left her with a message. "She didn't use the safe word." Poe, when older, lured in her mother's killer and enacted her revenge. Only, now, someone else is claiming to have killed Poe's mother, and he's taken to harassing and stalking Poe. Did Poe kill an innocent man instead of the one who actually killed her mother? Why has this man waited so long and is just now coming for her? Who is he really?

I loved the suspense, and the strength of Poe. I enjoyed Ian's cat and mouse evilness. This book is great the ending is great.

Good story.

I thought the story was a good one. I didn't like the attitude of the main character at times as it didn't really seem realistic if she was in the situation she was in. The last two hours were way too long and drug out. I got annoyed at all the long winded thoughts that didn't get closer to the end. Narrator was great.

Wow!

I have never read anything from this author not sure if this is a brand new author even but wow! I really enjoyed the entire plot and didn’t feel there was any boring parts. Maybe it’s my love of all things true crime that made me love it even more!

Get the protagonist some pepto

How many references to nausea can one writer make in a single story? Main character has the weakest stomach of any protagonist, how many stomach-churning episodes can she suffer?

Expected More…

I had high hopes for this book, but it just didn’t live up to the hype. I wish they would have kept the duet narration through the entire book and not just the transcript chapters. I never felt a sense of urgency from the main character, and some of her choices had me rolling my eyes.

Spectacular

I’m an insanely picky reader and I’ve gone through literally hundreds of audio books. The narration was phenomenal and the story really moved. Kept my attention the entire time. Very original and very entertaining. One of my rare 5 star ratings! Will definitely be reading another one by this author!
