About this listen

Told in alternating timelines, The Lake of Lost Girls is a haunting novel that will thrill fans of All Good People Here and We Are All the Same in the Dark.

Using suspenseful podcast clips to weave a twisty tale of a missing student and her sister who is desperate for answers, The Lake of Lost Girls is perfect for fans of I Have Some Questions for You.

It’s 1998, and female students are going missing at Southern State University in North Carolina, but freshman Jessica Fadley, once a bright and responsible student, is going through her own struggles. Just as her life seems to be careening dangerously out of control, she suddenly disappears.

Twenty-four years later, Jessica’s sister Lindsey is desperately searching for answers and uses the momentum of a new chart-topping true crime podcast that focuses on cold cases to guide her own investigation. Soon, interest reaches fever pitch when the bodies of the long-missing women begin turning up at a local lake, which leads Lindsey down a disturbing road of discovery.

In the present, one sister searches to untangle a complicated web of lies.

In the past, the other descends ever deeper into a darkness that will lead to her ultimate fate.

This propulsive and chilling suspense is a sharp examination of sisterhood and the culture of true crime.

First half was so good, but then it dragged horribly with a failed attempt at suspense. So much that it became annoying. The ending was no surprise and not believable at all.
The dramatics were eye rolling.
Found myself skipping ahead 30 seconds at a time towards the end because so much was repeated

Podcast type story leaving us with several different suspects killing young girls at college. Going back and forth between past and present with lots of twists and turns. I was partially correct on the killer but there was a twist to it that I did not see coming.

Fantastic story!

24 years later and not solved? Dad’s bad behavior ignored. Only a few people aware of storyline.

Not all that realistic. It’s a story after all.

It was curiously entertaining. I am not usually a murder mystery reader but I enjoyed this one. It wasn’t obvious, atleast until about half way through, just enough info revealed to keep you guessing. Even when I knew, I was still curious how and kept me going.

Great easy read/listening, kept my attention.

The characters in this book were annoying. This book felt like it was written by a man given how dumb the female characters were and how much the men got away with. I expected a little more from this book based on previous reviews but I was pretty disappointed overall.

Predictable

This was a great book with truly unexpected twists at the end. I felt that it dragged on a little with the dramatic teenage feelings, but that is a minor complaint. The book is really good, and I definitely recommend it!

Usually these mystery thrillers or what not are good but forgettable things I listen to while cleaning or working out. This one was a standout among them, with some fascinatingly flawed (if familiar, most of ‘em) characters, some more so than others …

Better than many

This book was good, a solid 4.5. However, the narrators made this a 5.0.

First person POV is essential to a thriller, in my mind. And the various view points were delightful, making me feel a part of the story. Adding of new viewpoints at the end of the book? Too good, I think it threw me off just enough I didn't guess the end.

great narrators
