About this listen

Kalian Gaines and the remains of humanity are forced to forge a new beginning in a galaxy that doesn't want them. After the Gomar wrought destruction across the Conclave, those taking refuge aboard the Gommarian are tainted by the same brush - humans are dangerous.

After a Conclave excavation unearths an object that predates even their ancient society, Kalian Gaines and Li'ara Ducarté are allowed off the Gommarian and asked to assist in an investigation that will take them deeper into the conspiracy of their origins.

Meanwhile, Roland North has escaped the confines of the Gommarian and taken up the life of a bounty hunter, causing more trouble for both the Conclave and humanity. Esabelle, the daughter of Savrick, is secretly tasked with using her unique Terran abilities to track Roland down before he does something they'll all regret.

Set on different paths, these few will be thrown into the tempest of machinations planned out long before humanity learned to walk.

They are coming. They are hungry.

Good second book in series

As good as the first book, the dark times for Humanity continue and the book ends with humanity in worse shape then it started in the book. IIf you like space opera with galaxy spanning Alien civilizations, science that seems like magic and mysteries to uncover. This is for you

Great story, unique exciting well written

The story continues to be unique, mystery, with great character development. If you’re looking for something to keep you “turning the pages” or listening, this is one story that will not disappoints.

The storyteller had so many unique voices that enhance a great story.

Lucky

Kalian is the luckiest dumbest person ever. The story would be better if the humans just weren't so lucky and so good at killing they are also dumb. Since I am all in I will listen to all the books but they are not a great listen just ok

The plot line got lost

The plot got lost behind endless fight scenes. The author obviously stretched a few good chapters into a novel. I might take a chance on the next in the series. If the story is like this one I probably will not finish it. I will look at the other reviews critically before I go further.

Michael Bay sequel sci-fi

Just like every Michael Bay sequel, the focus and attention are squarely on action. Logic, internal consistency, realism, interactions, everything else takes a secondary role to making sure people are fighting each other.

The narrator feels like he's reading in as few takes as possible so he can get his check and get out the door. Little attention is paid to consistency or accuracy in any of his voices, and he still doesn't know how to transition between characters/chapters/scenes.
