Publisher's summary

After a terrible car accident destroys her life as she knew it, 20-year-old Kacey escapes to Florida, where she encounters an irresistible man determined to capture her wounded heart.

Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.

Four years ago Kacey Cleary's life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend, and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend's lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, Kacey and her 15-year-old sister, Livie, escape Grand Rapids, Michigan, to start over in Miami. They're struggling to make ends meet at first, but Kacey's not worried. She can handle anything - anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.

Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey's guarded heart - even if it means revealing an explosive secret that could shatter both of their worlds.

Caught my heart

Wow, this one really pulled at my heart. It was one of those that pulled me in from the beginning and lasted until the very last! It's a very emotional story, not much sexual content, but it's one that's so interesting it doesn't matter. So you know I'm going to tell you it's worth the credit!

A Beautiful Story of Forgiveness

Any additional comments?

This was a story full of love, family, angst and ultimately forgiveness. I was truly touched that Trent reached out to Kacey in his attempt to right his wrongs. Truly a beautiful story. I can't wait to read more books from this author.

It was just OK

I had higher expectations for this book, especially after reading Burying Water, which I really liked. But I found myself waiting for a twist the whole time. It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't great either.

My first K.A. Tucker Novel…

…and I really enjoyed it! Based on some of the other reviews comparing parts of it to 50 Shades (barf) I expected it to be hot and steamy. It’s not. It’s a good story about complex issues, even though the “twist” was super obvious long before it was revealed. I really liked this narrator, too!

BOOK & AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 5 STARS

Last year I read so many books in the wrong order, and In Her Wake (Read my review here) was one of those. For me the story was kinda incomplete, that’s why I gave it only 3 stars, but now I know I was right, and I will definitely change its rating, because that was a perfect addition to Trent/Cole and Kasey’s story.

This book is the proof of how much love can heal a broken soul, a broken heart and bring happiness and hope to a person (or a lot of people) who thought life was never going to be worth it ever again.

This is the story of Kasey and Trent. Kasey was in a tragic accident where she lost almost everything, now she only have left her little sister and the shattered pieces of her soul. 4 years later, she and her sister Livie moved away and started over their lives. They met new friends that gradually became their new family and gave them what they were missing for the past 4 years, happiness. One of those people was Trent, but with him it was another story. He was the cause of all the drama in this book. He knocked down all Kasey’s protective walls of her heart, and that was so hard to accept for her, and when she was finally vulnerable and ready to love, he wasn’t ready anymore. Both their pasts were crashing down in their present, and threatening everything they built together in a short period of time. To know what happens with them, you have to read this amazing book.

K.A. Tucker has an amazing writing style that I learned to love as I read her books. She’s never explicit in her sex scenes and as you all know, I love an erotic book. But her books are not erotic at all. Her books are focused on the emotional side of her characters, their feelings, their friends, and families. Her books are romantic, heart broken, realistic and have amazing plots that always keep me interested until the very end of the book.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the books of this series. But first: Surviving Ice.

Elizabeth Louise did an great job with the narration of this book. As always, she made a flawless performance for all the characters, male and female. Her inflexions for Trent were very accurate for his personality: strong, caring, overprotective and romantic. The female voices were my favorite ones: Livie’s and Mia’s were sweet, and Kasey’s and Strong’s were mature but young at the same time. What I loved the most about Elizabeth’s narration was how she transmitted all Kasey’s emotions, anger, sadness, desperation, anxiety, fear and love, just by changing the tone of voice. Elizabeth did this audiobook a perfect companion for this beautiful story.

A great raw story with real dynamic characters

You know it's a good story where you come to points in it that feel so real you want to skip it. My heart broke for casey so many times, and for trent. But I love the passion and the beautiful and perfect way that they come together. Great story!
