Publisher's summary

Three women: a mother, a daughter, a friend. Can they save each other from the past?

It’s been twenty-six years since the accident, but Helen still lives on autopilot, going through the motions of work and motherhood. Her one wish is for her daughter Julia to settle down with her own family - so Helen can let go.

Julia has dealt with her mother’s emotional distance by looking for love in all the wrong places. But when her latest choice drives away her best friend, Claire, Julia realises she’s on her own.

Impossibly perfect Claire is so busy caring for everyone - even her cheating ex-husband - that she’s forgotten to look after herself. Reeling from Julia’s betrayal, she doesn’t know who to trust.

As their lives unravel, these three women reconnect in unexpected ways. But with a devastating secret still hanging over them, will they ever be able to leave the past behind?

Revised edition: Previously published in South Africa as The Accident, this edition of The Aftermath includes editorial revisions.

A book you can't put down.

I love the different points of view. The topics it covers are very serious at times but there are so many humorous moments that I've laughed aloud. I highly recommend this book.

Loved loved loved this book

I loved The Aftermath - the story and the exceptional performances. Gail develops her characters so beautifully I felt like I knew them intimately and found myself comparing them or aspects of them to people I knew.
There are surprises that ultimately make perfect sense and the unfolding of events take place like elegant dominoes colliding into one another for a perfect, imperfect ending. Highly recommended - I plan to now listen to all Gail Schimmels books! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well worth the listen!

I don’t review books on this site. This is actually my first one. I really enjoyed The Aftermath: the story, the narration, the experience!!

The book was funny (plenty of LOL moments), poignant, and left me with a feeling of happiness and hope! Not a deep, intense read but very very enjoyable and I highly recommend!

Beautiful story of overcoming grief

This was a beautifully-written story of women overcoming the baggage that comes with history of struggles. Each woman’s struggle is unique, but they are able to evolve and find strength within themselves by allowing others into their lives. The support of important personal connections and friendships is invaluable. The author weaves the stories together so artfully and reveals important background information price by piece to create and emotionally powerful work. The clever dialogue between friends, and the ability of each character to forgive each other despite all of their flaws is quite touching and should be a good lesson for us all.

Good Story

This book is told in four points of view, Helen, her daughter, Julia, Clare, Julia's BFF and Daniel, Clare's husband. It took me awhile to get into this book. There is a bit of drama, i love it. This book has made me angry and sad at the same time. The ending shocked me, that's why i like this book. I never saw it coming, I thought it would go one way and BAM! it all changed. It was a great ending. #TheAftermath #NetGalley

Beautifully sad, yet powerful read

This book made me think of Jodi Picoult's story lines. I loved it. I smiled. I laughed. I cried.
