About this listen

The Ancient Egyptian gods have defeated all the other pantheons and claimed dominion over the earth, dividing it into warring factions. Lt. David Westwynter, a British soldier, stumbles into Freegypt, the only place to have remained independent of the gods’ influence. There, he encounters the followers of a humanist leader known as the Lightbringer, who has vowed to rid mankind of the shackles of divine oppression. As the world heads towards an apocalyptic battle, there is far more to this freedom fighter than it seems.

An intresting take on modern times if the gods (Specifically egyptian pantheon) were present, known, and major players in the worlds politics. The book does an amazing job of building its world, handling the things you would expect as well as the gods portrayal. The story itself i find less important, which is funny. It's still well done mind, but it is an action story with intrigue, mystery and doubts. All of it really comes to a boiling point near the very end with a very well done ending. The performer was the weakest part, though that doesn't say very much to be quite honest. It was hard at a time or two to differentiate a character or two. Still stellar work.

Intresting, and well done.

Some interesting ideas. A little disappointing to me. I will read some of the other Pantheon books to see if they are better.

Ok look at alternate world

I'm a huge FSN of lovevrove's sherlock holmes novels and while Age of Ra was certainly an original setting, the story wasn't nearly as original as I've come to expect.

Unique and fun but not stunning

Lovegrove is a good military writer, and absolutely has a good grasp on several modes of mythology
But the writing, dialogue and plots just make you feel deflated, with great buildup and potential always leading to a flimsy twist
Go read robert jackson bennett for a satisfying weave of myth, military and intrigue

Fun but trite

Very entertaining and captivating. Love the use of the smaller, lesser know God's, as well as the speculation

Good book.

An interesting take on an alternate reality where the Egyptian gods hold sway. And humans often find themselves pawns in the gods Machinations.

A fascinating alternate reality.

Narration is rough and hard to get into. I gave up on it with 3 hours left.

Difficult

the writing is pretty bad...also the plot...also the narrator has a much too friendly Midlands accent for a military sci-fi. Overall, maybe hold off on this one and see if things improve in the later books.

So bad it's....really bad
