About this listen

The Kingdom of Askara has been torn apart by conflict for centuries, where humans exist as subservient beings to their werewolf masters. Legend says it will only be able to heal itself when an Alpha King and a pure omega are mated and crowned together, but a pure omega hasn't been born in over a thousand years. Luca is an Alpha-heir eagerly awaiting the choosing ceremony on his 25th birthday and the gifts granted by whichever omega he mates. His small pack is destitute due to the decisions of its ruling council, but being only an Alpha-heir, he has no authority to challenge them. Not until now - this moment he has waited a long time for. Kit grew up as a street-rat, an unlicensed human who would never be more than a slave for whichever master owns him. Then one day he came across a young Alpha-heir, attacked and dying of poison, and found out their fates were suddenly entwined. Luca needs to take over his pack and save his people. He cannot afford to be distracted. But when he meets Kit, he develops abilities indicating he is not just a pack Alpha, but the King his world has needed for a thousand years. Is Kit really the cause of Luca's newfound power, the true mate he needs? How is it possible when the young man isn't even a werewolf, and as merely a human, a mating is not only forbidden, but for Kit, a sentence of death?

I love the whole thing!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Alpha King to be better than the print version?

The audio just made the book even better. Joel Leslie just had a way of making a book so much better without taking away from how the author writes the book. He has the characters come alive and I love every minute of it.

What about Joel Leslie’s performance did you like?

I love everything but I had one part that I actually had yo stop.listening for a little bit. He just made that part of the story so real that I was feeling the embarrassment and the hurt and all I wanted to do so tell at the characters to talk to each other. I love it in the book but I Joel Leslie's performance made it have more feeling then just reading it.

Any additional comments?

I love Victoria Sue for her amazing book and for Joel Leslie for just bring the story to life.

Good MPreg Story

Any additional comments?

I have never read any books by this author before. It was interesting to see what style of writing this contained. I have to say it is a light style. I didn't like the whole no communication/miscommunication issue that occurs. Also the whole deal with the crisis at the end of the story is a little too easy to see coming.

Still I do enjoy lighter stories on occasion and the overall story wasn't bad at all. I think it is a book that most will either really like or really hate. There seems to be little compromise on that. I thought the story was a fun read that will agree with people looking for a lighter, "sweet" romance. I am interested in where the author will go with the series.

The narrator was really good. He has always done a good job with bringing life to the story and voice to the characters. He is an enjoyable listen.

OMG WHAT? Loved it....

I’m not very good at giving reviews. But if you like Gay themed books that are funny, very wittily written and a great read. Then this book is for you. I don’t usually like these kind of books because a lot of times they have something I dislike. A very effeminate narrator, or writing with tired cliches like “ You go girl”, or “ Snap” etc. There’s nothing wrong with this kind of writing of course. It’s just not me. But this was written and narrated fantastically. The narrator was superb, using feminine voice when it was called for, but was able to use many different inflections for different characters. All I can really say is try it. There’s enough sex to keep those of you who like a steamy romp happy. While keeping the great story going and not getting bogged down. A SUPERB READ. I can’t wait for the next book.

Not bad

What I liked about the book was the interesting world-building and alpha shifters with human omegas is always hawt. The bad thing for me about the book is the mc alpha is one of those… I just wanted to scream “would you stfu and let someone finish a sentence!” But no, he wouldn’t and ran off half-cocked too much.

Also-and this has just been driving me a little nuts STILL and I’ve already finished all of the books-these shifters live like 300 years. So why is it soooo important for the mc to sire a child at 25 years old? And if these alphas start making babies at 25, why aren’t their families huge?
And if everyone starts producing their alpha-heir at 25, why isn’t each pack’s current alpha like the great-great-great-great grandfather of the alpha-heirs? This just made zero sense to me and it’s never explained.

Excellent start to a new series

Any additional comments?

When does the next book come out??? I need it now. There was a lot that went on in this story & it was full of action & romance. There was great world building. Boy the humans where treated like less than second hand citizens. What was being done to the children, especially the silk harvesters, nearly did me in (yes everything that was happening to them was awful but for some reason that sent me over). My only two real issues were, Luca didn't always act like the big bad Alpha that he should be. He let those that betrayed him live, he should have executed them. I know, I know he is trying to make things different but there are somethings you just need to take care of. Especially now that you have to protect your wife & young. The other issue is him jumping to a conclusion & acting out like a child when all he had to do was speak to his mate. I really can't wait to continue this series.

Great story, forced narration

Story has some promise, but I couldnt get past the exhasberated sound of the narrator. Felt like he was wheezing or something. His voice sounded to Old man from brooklyn to be speaking. Other then that I liked the storyline and betrayal, even the Pregnancy, but after a while I just had to stop. Felt like the narrator needed to stop smoking a carton a day.

Angst-apalooza!

The Story:
Now that is how you write a shifter/Mpreg book! I cannot express to you how much I enjoyed this story. This audiobook really has so much going on in only eight hours and fifteen minutes (215 pages), but not so much you're overwhelmed. It really is just right!

Victoria Sue did a fantastic job with the world building. So much so, it was easy to visualize when Luca, Kit, Sam and the rest of the gang start their trip to Neira. Not to mention the character development and storyline was wonderfully done. Seriously, I was hooked from the very beginning. With all the miscommunication, betrayal, an evil/horrible family members, sexy times, knotting and Mpreg. Really, what is not to love?

This is my second time with this book, and you know it's good when you still get pissed at the same points in the story every time you read/listen to it. Really Luca, you are such an ass. Don't you think you would learn from your first fuck up, but no you didn't. Really?!? So, yeah this book is full of angst.

So, I can only hope that the next book is about Sam and Asher. Now, that should be an angst-apalooza, fo' shizzle!

The Narration: 3.5 stars (rounded-up)
Okay, now to break down the narration. This is my third audiobook narrated by Joel Leslie, and at this point I have come to a bit of a conclusion. That is, his voice sounds otherworldly, which I believe is better when used for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre. Now, I'm not saying that given more "data" my conclusion will not change because everyone knows the more information you have the better conclusion you can draw.

In regards to the characters, I do like his rough/textured voice; however, the female parts IMO were only okay. In addition, the voices for the council in the beginning, seem to fit the characters at first, but when the author lets us know that they were in fact not even a third of their age, it seemed way off. Meaning, IMO Joel Leslie made them sound older than they should have. Overall, it was an enjoyable audiobook that I would definitely listen to again.

Destined to be

When Luca was in need of aid, it was Kit who saved him many years ago. Luca never forgot him and he always wondered if their parting words were meant to be.

Years later their paths cross again and its in the most unbelievably, unique way. Kit is someone who is meant to complete Luca and aid him in life in a way no other can.

Their journey together in life will not be easy, there will be doubt, jealousy, hardships and trials but if they are united, a King and his mate, together they shall conquer.

This was an interesting take on a midieval setting mpeg. I was drawn into the characters plight and was intrigued as to what will come next.

The narration took me a while to get accustomed to with all of the different vocalizations, but once I did, I enjoyed this tale.
