About this listen

With her ever-ready smile, Eve O’Doyle faces life’s challenges with boundless optimism. However, even she finds it difficult to see the silver lining in her parents’ news: disaster has struck, leaving their genteel family in dire financial straits. But all is not lost. In the name of economizing, Eve will skip the London Season—even if it means dooming herself to spinsterhood. Determined that her sister, Nia, should enjoy their Christmas gathering with the Huntresses and the Pack, Eve will keep the truth quiet and soak in her last fleeting moments of lighthearted revelry with her friends. But from the moment she departs from her family’s Dublin estate, nothing goes as planned.

Exhausted by his relentless role as family peacemaker, Duke Seymour anticipates the brief respite of a festive holiday with friends. Escorting two of the Huntresses to the party is no hardship—the O’Doyle sisters are always a delight. But when an unforeseen winter storm waylays the group at a country inn, Duke and Eve form a surprising attachment that runs far deeper than friendship. And though they are eager to explore these new feelings, upon their arrival at the party, the couple is immediately met with unexpected opposition—they soon realize that no matter their feelings, the weight of responsibility they both feel toward their families may crush their dream of a happy ending for themselves.

For this book I would read snapdragon since the main characters of that story are mentioned in this one. as always love prevails!

oooo I love it !

Such a lovely story filled with great friends, not so great family and all the feelings that come with them. Duke has so much to deal with as his insecure parents and needy grandmother use up all his patience and embarrass him at every turn. Eve has her own problems with money and secrets. I loved how their lives came together and they found help with their dreams and future. I'm looking forward to seeing how their lives progress in the series.

Another great one!

I usually like some smut and all that but honestly, Sarah M Eden’s books are absolutely phenomenal. The world and characters she’s created are amazing! There’s so many moments in every book where I laugh out loud and those moments still make me chuckle now. She’s one of the few authors that I’ve purchased many of her books as physical copies, digital, and audio. All of her characters are unique and yet so relatable. I love how the characters all interact and you can read everything as a stand alone but the history and Easter eggs are there.

Duke’s grandmother was so triggering for me because she reminded me so much of my own mother. His mother and father too to a degree with how bitter they are and how it shaped their lives and limited their ability to be present for Duke as his parents.

I loved the growth that Duke went through as he started to learn he can prioritize himself. Eve is his perfect match and while I died from some second hand embarrassment a few times she stood strong and defended someone who deserved it but not from her. The more I think on it I think she’s one of my favorite characters and that’s saying something because I love all of them.

My only complaint with the performance was the Irish accents. I know they’re supposed to be subtle but they just seemed off but I was able to still enjoy the book.

My final piece is that I hope we get Nia’s story and I’m hoping she ends up with Duke’s cousin. (Sorry listened to the book and don’t know exactly how to spell his first name.)

Loved it!!

One of my favorite part of Sarah M Books are the hope and the turning of the tide that she weaves into really relatable circumstances. I love how she portrays healthy relationships. This book is no exception! I love Eve. I love her humor and how she does her best to make due. I love how she has a backbone and isn't afraid to defend those she loves who've been hurt. My favorite scene is of Eve giving a well deserved dressing down to Duke's family. Her courage and character shone the most in that moment. And I resonated with that quite deeply. As I would have done the same!

One of my favorite part of any Sarah M Eden Book
