About this listen

Bridesmaids meets Big Little Lies in a novel told from the alternating perspectives of two women who define the term frenemies - from New York Times best-selling author Jen Lancaster.

Jacqueline Jordan knows conflict. A fearless journalist, she’s spent the past decade embedded in the world’s hot spots, writing about the fall of nations and the rise of despots. But if you were to inquire about who topped Jack’s enemy list, she’d not hesitate to answer: Kitty Carricoe.

Kitty reigns supreme over the world of carpools and minivans. A SAHM, she spends her days caring for her dentist husband and three towheaded children, running the PTA, and hiding vegetables in deceptively delicious packed lunches.

Kitty and Jack haven’t a single thing in common - except for Sarabeth Chandler, their mutual bestie. Sarabeth and Jack can be tomboys with the best of them, while Sarabeth can get her girly-girl on with Kitty. In fact, the three of them were college friends until the notorious incident when Jack accidentally hooked up with Kitty’s boyfriend...

Yet both women drop everything and rush to Sarabeth’s side when they get the call that her fabulously wealthy husband has perished in a suspicious plane crash. To solve the mystery surrounding his death, Jack and Kitty must bury the hatchet and hit the road for a trip that just may bring them together - if it doesn’t kill them first.

Love it!

Great job Jen! Love the story! If it seems a bit slow in the middle, it's only the info you need for the awesome end!

Frinemies to die for!

What did you love best about The Best of Enemies?

The two main characters! I love how different they were, yet perfect together. Perfectly written.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved to listen to that parts about the two character's fights in college. Hilarious!

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan and Emily Rankin – was your favorite?

Kitty was wonderfully written. You kind of start out hating her, but quickly see her multiple layers and grow to adore this wonderful mother.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved the part when Kitty flipped out on Jacq's mother who, by the way, was a total jerk.

Any additional comments?

Recommended this to my best friend literally as soon as I finished it. If you by chance loved "Big Little Lies," by Liane Moriarity - then you will love this book too.

Fun, light story

Fun story, but the numerous mispronunciations by the narrator were distracting. Would recommend for someone who isn't bothered by that.

Jen hits it again!

Jen Lancaster has an incredible way with characters and dialogue. This book was delicious from start to finish. Narration was spot on, too. Grab some mallomars, snuggle up in front of the fire ,or on the beach with an umbrella drink, and enjoy!

Another great Jen Lancaster book!

Any additional comments?

This was a little hard to follow at first, but after listening for awhile I figured out who the characters were, how they were related and what was going on. I have enjoyed most of Jen Lancaster's books, and this one was excellent. Very entertaining and worth listening to.

Loved it! Another hit by Jen Lancaster.

Jen Lancaster is hands down my favourite author. Her memoirs are hilarious and touching. And her fiction has been great too. This is by far her best work of fiction yet. I absolutely loved it--so much so that I wish I hadn't listened to it so quickly, I'm sad it's over!
Keep up the wonderful writing Jen. I'm a huge fan.

Wonderful!

A gripping tale, that will keep you guessing till the end! Also, I've learned that almost anything read by Julia Whelan is bound to be superb, she's just that good.
