About this listen

From the author of the number one best-selling audiobook, Opal Fire, comes a brand new spellbinding trilogy inspired by fairy tale characters.

These are not the mild-mannered maidens of your childhood. These are fallen princesses and fierce women with no recollection of who they are, where they came from, or how they arrived in a mysterious town called Everafter. All they know is that they've been sentenced to a stretch in a half-way house by a malicious judge with an ax to grind. They've been stripped of their freedom, their kingdoms, and their true loves. Now, they have nothing left to lose.

Snow White is the newest parolee to arrive at Granny's House for Girls. It isn't long before she learns that her housemates harbor secrets, and that the mansion itself is a meandering enigma. She stumbles upon forbidden doorways, ghostly passages, and walls that seem to breathe. Determined to find out what's really happening inside those old walls, Snow embarks on a dangerous discovery mission. Not everyone is thrilled about her nosing around. In fact, there are some who would kill to keep the secrets that the house - and its occupants - hold.

Funny twisted fairytale that kept me spellbound

Would you listen to The Bitches of Everafter: A Fairy Tale again? Why?

I will certainly be listening to this again. It's an enjoyable and really fun book with unexpected twists.

What other book might you compare The Bitches of Everafter: A Fairy Tale to and why?

Some similarities to Barbra Annino's Stacy Justice series, in that it is well written with characters I came to care for, strong yet still feminine characters, and a great plot that kept me guessing. Still, the overall tone was different than the Stacy Justice series. More peppery and sillier, in keeping with the twisted fairytale aspect.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoy the way Barbra Annino makes her main characters both strong and female. Many consider the two traits to not go together -- some are men who consider women weak by definition, others are women who deny all the feminine in themselves because they don't want to be seen as weak. I see being true to yourself in spite of societal pressures to be a part of strength. I like that Snow White, in this book, "liked cooking, even cleaning, and she especially enjoyed making her surroundings beautiful." Indeed, Snow White with her sensitivity to herself and others, and Bella Bookless with her love of animals and books, are my favorite characters in this book. Punzie and Cindy were grittier and may appeal more to some others. Still, Snow is perhaps the most determined character in the book, as Annino writes, "There was something important at the heart of all these strange experiences, and Snow was bound and determined to figure out exactly what it was."

Very much looking forward to the next book in the series. Eagerly waiting to learn more about Granny, Judge Redhood, Snow, Bella, and Grim!

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review and that is what I am offering here. Enjoy!

Eh.

It was okay. Not my favorite by Barbara Annino. I probably won't continue the series. In the beginning there were just too many characters and not enough story to make me care about any of them. It could have been better.

Too many Bitches!

I read this book because I liked the Stacy Justice books, I read them all. I like the "spin" on the Grimm fairy tails but the language and constant profanity killed the characters and the story. I want to be clear, I have no issues with profanity but the profanity just seemed misplaced and extra. It was just unnecessary. I had to force myself to finish because curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to know who the culprit was. Didn't realize it will be a three book series. I will not read the other books.
