About this listen

An enchanted blade. An evil old man. An ancient spirit.

The Weird West just gets weirder.

Hucksters Orville and Jimmy struggle to buy a decent meal.

When an old man asks for help with a supernatural pest, Orville smells opportunity. Jimmy smells danger.

And danger is what they find. Jimmy must retrieve an enchanted knife, while fighting a huge coyote, a shapeshifting opossum, and an ancient spirit determined to keep the blade where it is, all to save Orville from the old man's clutches.

The Black Blade is a weird western in Jeff Chapman's Huckster Tales series, mixing fantasy, comedy, and horror in an Old West setting. Climb up in the wagon and follow Orville and Jimmy as they once again plunge over their heads into supernatural trouble.

The huckster and his friend trickster, are tasked to do more complicated 'tricks'.He isn't sure he can or should ,but he needs money for food,so will do what he needs to do.Tasked to find a blade, with a girl tagging along,,the huckster stands up to a bandit,he is wounded.A doc,of sorts, finds, then heals with a cross of regular digging out bulets and just a touch to heals the remaining woulds.Every turn is open for a metaphor,While you're laughing at these,a coyote shifter just may creep up on you! David Bosco was a terrific narrator!I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

An Odd Quirky Tale

Jeff Chapman has written a creative and strange tale that I found amusing and fun. Jeff writes stories that create movies in my imagination as his characters are so relatable and his settings have just the right amount of detail. I enjoyed this story very much. I recommend this book to others who enjoy this genre. David Bosco's narration was excellent and entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Fun

What an enjoyable romp this book was. I like the weird western genre and this was a fine example of it. The writing was crisp, the main character was a "good egg," and the story line was just plain enjoyable. Nothing overly wrought or complicated, just a nice bit of "take you away" entertainment that was a perfect length (about 5 hours of fun distraction).

A young Stephen King in the making

If ya every read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King this novel is abit similar set in western time with magic and quick draws between life and death. The novel was abit rushed in the early ch but work out the qinks greatly do I do think the finale battle could have been more climatic then mild adventure I felt in it.

Loved this story

This was a great story. The characters were well developed & very likable. The story flowed nicely & it was enjoyable. The villain was evil and so was his monster. The best part was the narrator. He did an awesome job! I highly recommend this story.

Amusing Western

I normally do not listen to western books but gave this one a try due to the narration and surprise I did enjoy it as not the conventional western, it has supernatural components and humorous. I enjoyed the characters od Jimmy and Orville with their shenanigans but do not like the Pig man. I was given this free review copy audiobook and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

A little different

Good short listen. Think western meets Dr. Moreau, a lot of action and some supernatural characters too!
Narration was amazing as usual from David Bosco.

A great genre mashup

I really enjoyed this story. It is a great mashup of genres and an entertaining read. It is fairly short and could have dived a bit deeper into the origins or powers of the blade, the back story of the evil old man, and development of the protagonist, but on the other hand it is just right just as it is. Sometimes you don't need deep and complex when all you want is an enjoyable listen while commuting or working in the yard.
