Publisher's summary

In the wake of Earth's collapse into chaos, Captain Hoshiko Stuart made the mistake of speaking her mind - and was exiled six months from Sol to a naval base in an unexplored and uncontacted sector. Placed in command of a single squadron of starships, she expected nothing but boredom.

But when she discovers an alien race threatening to exterminate all other races within the sector, Hoshiko and her squadron are drawn into a war to stop them, even if it means forging an alliance with aliens who may themselves become a threat to humanity and building an empire that may alienate her from her family once and for all.

The Black Sheep is the third stand-alone book in A Learning Experience.

Love these books great writer and great narrator.

They leave you wanting more. I really hope this universe is expanded into a full series that it has the potential for the big screen.

I miss Steve!

I am not a fan of all these side stories. All the chapter Intel's talk about Earth and the Solar Union but the book itself barely talks about it. Bring back STEVE!

Fun Book

An imaginative and fun series that cleaves closely to standard military sci-fi tropes. Could have done without the political narrative. Don't agree with the point of view and hear enough about politics on a daily basis without wanting to dive back into them in my recreational reading.

UFP, Red Alert, Engage...

Somebody is obviously a Star Trek fan (Like me).
While the stories have a lot of political commentary, they are still a good read. The obvious references to Star Trek were fun and added some inside joke humor that I enjoyed. The third book in the series was as good as, if not better than, the first.

PS: what's the deal about calling it the Teleporter rather than the Transporter?

The Comeback Kid

Black Sheep dropped most of the force-fed libertarian soapbox “fun” that was so heavily laden in Hard Lessons.

Come on back for this one if you liked the first book. You should still read the second, even if it is a PITA at times.

Another winner!

I only slept 3 hours for two nights, because I couldn't stop listening. Standard Operating Procedure whenever Chris comes out with a book.
