About this listen

Jan Reyna is a murder squad detective, British by adoption and choice, Faroese by birth and history. Called back to the remote Danish Faroe Islands when his father suffers a paralysing stroke, Reyna is forced to reexamine his decades-long rejection of the past and of his father in particular.

But in this now-foreign country, whose language and customs he no longer understands, Reyna is also drawn into a rare Faroese murder case. The crime seems to have Reyna's father at its centre, but investigating it inevitably brings Reyna closer to the childhood events he's purposely erased from his memory. He is also confronted by his half brothers, who have their own agenda and seem intent on protecting the family name from any implication of wrongdoing.

Reyna's choice, then, is either to push through the resistance and risk what he might reveal about his past or to forsake the strange, windswept Faroe Islands for good. His decision will change the lives of everyone around him, but the truths he's already uncovered can't be reburied.

I enjoyed a lot of this book, learning about the Danish Faroe Islands especially. I liked the main character, Jan Reyna, a British detective, returned to his birth place to confront a father he never really knew. I already had the next book in the series saved to my wish list . . . but after the way the story fizzled out at the end, I took it out. There seemed to be no resolutions made, and if there's one thing I can't stand, is a NON ENDING.

Good Until It Wasn't 😕

I’m traveling to the Faroes later this year and wanted to listen to a novel to inspire me ahead of my trip. This was a great book and I’m happy I downloaded it.

A Deeply Satisfying Police Procedural

While some may find the plot a little slow, I felt that it allowed me to savor the book. The character development was good, but we are left with intriguing questions about Reyna's background, as well as his future. The setting of the Faroes also makes this book stand out from the pack. Imagine my shock when I learned that the main victim and the killer have very similar names to both my grandfathers!

Can't wait to read the other books in this series!

I liked this book s lot. It took awhile to get used to the unfamiliar names and places, but once I did I really liked it. The reader was superb!

Interesting location and story

Despite an interesting location and good narration, Blood Strand failed to hold my interest. Maybe I'll try it again later.

Narration was superb and story terrific. I’m so glad there’s a sequel. I will start it immediately

Great book!

I liked the story even though I figured out most of the plot halfway. The narrator is okay, he just needs to get better at pausing between changes in POV.
