About this listen

You can never escape the past. Especially on the moors....

After the National Crime Agency cracks a major drug gang, junior barrister Julia McGann finds herself defending the violent enforcer Terrence Bonner. This high-profile case is a coup for her, but almost immediately things start to go wrong. Intruders break into her house, and then a young girl turns up at her door with a horrifying story to tell.

Three months later, DCI Craig Gillard and his team struggle with the shocking murder of a much-respected local headmaster, found dead in his own car. The baffling crime fills the newspapers but yields few clues. As Gillard sifts the evidence, a pair of blood-spattered gloves seems important.

Why were they used for both the murder and for the burglary at Julia’s house? What secrets is the barrister hiding...and what happened on the Derbyshire Moors two decades ago that could be the key to these shocking events?

A story of deceit, vengeance and blackmail, best-selling author Nick Louth will leave you reeling in this unpredictable crime thriller.

I really, really enjoyed this book. Just when you think you know where the story is going and you have it figured out it surprises you. Characters are very well developed, too.

Excellent

A tale of problem solving rather than crime solving. Moral ambiguity, the stuff of life. Sadly, the real victim didn’t get away with it in the end.

Twisted…

I agree with the majority. This story was over all disappointing. I don’t recommend it and sorry I didn’t believe the previous reviews.

Soooo did not expect that ending....not sure I like it. Feels very unfinished, but I presume that is a set up for part 2.

Wait....WHAT!?!?

This was a great story. Well written and well narrated. It’s a little different than most of the series but well conceived. Some people don’t like the ending. Personally I like books that make you think. I suggest you don’t read the reviews and just listen to the book.

Holy Cow!

Love Nick Louth's books, every one of them...this one, however, had me hooked but let me down (don't want to throw out any spoilers so I'll stop here...) You decide...

Nick Louth fans, Beware!

I enjoyed the story, but DCI Craig Gillard was really on the periphery of it. It was odd for an installment in a series. As always, Marston York was excellent as narrator.

Good story, but…

This has been the best one yet in my opinion but I haven’t finished this series

I like the series

Have read every book in order, so it was refreshing to still have familiar characters around, but the story being narrated from the other side. excellent read.

Great story from the other perspective

I’ve read the series to this book. Doesn’t seem like a Craig Gillard book, he is a side character. Some will like the attributes that make it seem it should have been a stand-alone. Where some see moral ambiguity, I see moral corruption, from characters that it doesn’t seem a fit for. The steps of corruption are huge and it doesn’t seem most people make that huge step, they go down that path incrementally. I don’t think I’d read past this book, but the next 2 are free, so I’ll give it a go. I wonder if this book is why the next 2 are available as an Audible subscriber,

Least appealing book in the series so far
