About this listen

"The Bone Keeper will corrupt your days and shatter your nights." (Val McDermid)

"A dark and brilliant thriller from a writer who just gets better and better. The Bone Keeper is tense, chilling and HUGELY scary." (Mark Billingham)

"Luca Veste proves you don't need to go to the Bayou or the Everglades to find something terrifying in the deep, dark woods. Sometimes evil is lurking just around the corner. An entertainingly nasty piece of work." (Christopher Brookmyre)

What if the figure that haunted your nightmares as child, the myth of the man in the woods, was real? He'll slice your flesh. Your bones he'll keep.

Twenty years ago, four teenagers went exploring in the local woods, trying to find the supposed home of the Bone Keeper. Only three returned.

Now, a woman is found wandering the streets of Liverpool, horrifically injured, claiming to have fled the Bone Keeper. Investigating Officer DC Louise Henderson must convince skeptical colleagues that this urban myth might be flesh and blood.

But when a body is unearthed in the woodland the woman has fled from, the case takes on a much darker tone.

The disappeared have been found. And their killer is watching every move the police make.

Its not a bad book, for s psychological thriller. It was good up until 3/4 of the book and then fizzled out at the end. I would still recommend as a decent book.

Not terrible

this book really grabs you within the first few pages. a really great mystery / suspense novel that kept me intrigued until the very end. I liked the narrators as well.

i purchased this book a couple years ago but as a teacher, i never had the time to read for myself. Now that i am no longer in education i decided to get the audio version as i worked on projects. I am so glad i did! The build up was great and i could picture it as i was listening. The book did not disappoint!

well done

Resolution of the story wasn’t what I was expecting. Could be a better ending in my opnion.

Intriguing but..

We are,seeing lots of these
psychological suspense books - with or without supernatural twists - flooding the market. Very seldom is a really good one
launched out there in book land

I listened simply to hear Elizabeth Sastre’s voice — well worth it if only for that reason. (In short, I agree with “Donna.).
A Lady cop chasing Semi-mythical serial killer in the spooky woods. You get the usual elements:
police procedural with light internal politics.
Partner relationship, uncomplicated.
Whodunnit aspect is the plot driver but Louise has a long-missing son who may also have been a victim (?).
A surviving/injured witness (Caroline) with distorted history — maybe Louise can get more.
The killer kills again.

Louise gets personal messages from the killer…
The early book is the conversation between the cop partners and Louise’s thoughts. There’s no real tension or intrigue and minimal relationship advancement. I was mostly bored but also enjoyed the relative calm and realism compared to the many other books with nearly identical storyline. As hours dragged by and I listened for a twist…
…OMG this is the lamest and oldest plot there is!!
(The many contrivances used to create a cliffhanger or page turner are not here. I don’t miss them but something surprising would have been welcome.).
I liked how Louise (early on) worked to let her partner think that ideas and realizations were his own. A truly likeable protagonist, but should she also confide in him?

Excellent reading. Bland story

I wasn't impressed with the plot of “The Bone Keeper.” I found the story to be slow-paced and dragging, which led me to skip ahead to the final chapter with five hours remaining. While this book wasn’t to my taste, others may find it engaging. Despite my disappointment, I’m still interested in exploring more works by this author. The narration by Elizabeth Sastre was a highlight and well executed.

I found this Audible Plus choice difficult to follow…
