About this listen

A collection of lost books holds the clues to her family's legacy…and her future.

Hope Sparrow has mastered the art of outrunning her tragic past, learning never to stay anywhere too long and never to allow anyone control over her life again. Coming to Wanishin Falls in search of her family's history already feels too risky. But somewhere in the towering stacks of this dusty old bookshop are the books that hold Hope's last ties to her late mother—and to a rumored family treasure that could help her start over.

Only, the bookshop is in shambles, and the elderly owner is in the beginning stages of dementia and can’t remember where the books lie. To find the last links to the loved ones she's lost, Hope must stay and accept help from the townsfolk to locate the treasured volumes. Each secret she uncovers brings her closer to understanding where she came from. But the longer she stays in the quaint town, the more people find their way into the cracks in her heart. And letting them in may be the greatest risk of all…

I thought I would be bored in the beginning but the mystery got increasingly intriguing. I’m a Christian and I have often found modern Christian novelists to be generic and “Hallmark.” This character represented being a survivor of a major horror. She also faced her fears and has grit. I liked the pirate aspect . The narration pacing and emphasis as well as pronunciation need some work.

I am looking forward to more from this author.

Interesting

Although this was not my normal genre and I wasn't expecting the religious aspect, it was a sweet story. The narrator stumbled a few times but not terrible.

Not what I expected

I hope the author writes more books. A little mystery a little romance a little trauma and loved the “clean” read. Loved all the reminders of Gods promises to us. Great book.

LOVED IT!!!!!!

Just bought a new car and found out I could listen to this book as I drive. I loved the mystery, the characters, the Christian references & Bible verses. The best part was that there was no sex. Romance, yes; but no sexual undertones. Very enjoyable read.

Beautiful story with real romance

Pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed listening immensely. I look forward to more from Mollie. Narration was easy to listen to as well.

First time to read this author!

The story was ok, but I am not religious and a large part of the story is about religion and get progressively more so. The performance was pretty good but the most prononciation of a major author’s name drove me nuts. I am sorry i spent a credit on this as it wasn’t for me.

Very Christian story

First, the story: Most importantly, a trigger warning. The story relies heavily on a history of sexual abuse and human trafficking. If that’s a trigger, then don’t open this book. Second: I wish the blurb I read said this is Christian fiction. If that is not your cup of tea, then this is not the book for you. It starts small, but becomes quite preachy. I ended up skipping through those sections to get back to the story. The story itself is good, just a little slow for most of it. It pauses to explore trauma and struggles with faith, then gets back to the action, so to speak. It’s a good storyline, all in all.

Now, about the narrator of the audiobook: in a nutshell, she is annoying. I had to slow the playback speed because her pace was causing me anxiety. What really got under my skin was her mispronunciation of book and author names. Specifically, Jane Eyre and JRR Tolkien. “Eyre” is not pronounced like “Ire” (as the narrator says), but like “Air.” Also, Tolkien is not pronounced like “Tolkin” like she says, but is instead said as “Tolkeen.” It’s said so often that it really gets on your nerves.

She also makes bizarre pauses, very frequently. For instance, “His father has never been able to talk him out of <pause> something he’d set his mind to.” Or “….sirens whooping <pause> towards them.” It’s enough to jar you from the story.

Overall, the main plot line is enjoyable. Just keep these notes in kind in case it’s not your thing.

Needs some trigger warnings

This book came to me at the right moment. At a time I was feeling lost. God has his time and his time is perfect.

thank you

I liked the story very much. It was well written and engaging. It was filled with hope for a broken character whose life had been stolen by abuse.

Very Good Story

Overall glad I listened to this one! Just a little long in some areas toward the end. But it’s well written with good descriptions. I give it a thumbs up!

Good mystery that kept me interested
