A recipient of numerous Gold Book and Silver Angel awards, Beverly Lewis provides an insider's view of Amish life that resonates with millions.

In The Brethren - the New York Times best selling sequel to The Englisher - Ben Martin and Annie Zook, sweethearts from two different worlds, try to cope with the separation imposed by her Amish father. But after Ben's Kentucky parents tell him startling secrets about his past, he must return to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to answer some troubling questions.

When he approaches Paradise's covered bridge, he wonders who's re-hung the old rope swing. Drawing closer, he sees a young Amish woman sitting on the swing. When she turns, Ben is thrilled to see Annie. But as Ben tells her what his parents just revealed, he wonders why Annie smiles at him in shocked disbelief.

A good ending to a good series

Beverly Lewis is a great story teller and Stina Nielsen is a great narrator. I have always enjoyed Beverly’s stories and this series, Annie’s people, was a pleasure.

Coming of Age in Amish Community

This three book series takes the reader into the faith and thought of Amish life, and is paced sweetly like an Amish horse and buggy ride. I cared about the characters’ inner struggles and surprised at the diverse yet unified way they embraced their beliefs and each other in the end. Audible performance was superb!

technical difficulties; what's wrong with art?

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Stina Nielson is one of my favorite readers, but there were technical difficulties with the editing on this one with some long pauses between some chapters and no pauses between other chapters. Can hear turning pages or swallowing at times.

Any additional comments?

Would have loved to see the brethren change their harsh, critical, religious bondage, non-Christian attitudes/lifestyles. After all, it is called The Brethren. But, glad for the positives in the story, not focusing on the negatives.

Another great book, but noticeable technical problems

Another great book by Beverly Lewis! Stina Nielsen was definitely the best narrator for this series. She captured the characters in a remarkable way. Only downside to this recording was the technical difficulties I heard. Things that should have been tuned out, like pages turning, echos of the studio etc... were not probably edited out. Awkward pauses were very noticeable or quick transitions from chapter to chapter were quick to make me cringe. Aside from these technical problems that were by no means the narrator’s fault, her performance was fantastic!

Question about kidnapping

Great series!
Did I miss who did kidnapped Ben? How did he end up on someone’s doorstep in Kentucky?
