About this listen

This story only ever has one ending.

When Everly Tertium encounters a strange man in the park claiming to be her grandfather, she is invited to visit a mysterious apartment building. There, she finds herself in a constant state of déjà vu, impossibly certain that she’s already lived through these moments, already been introduced to these people, and already visited all of these rooms and floors. So why does she have no idea what’s happening to her?

The longer she stays in the building, the more Everly becomes convinced there is more going on than meets the eye. Something is off, time seems to pass differently, and the people living there seem trapped. Slowly, Everly begins to wonder if she is trapped too. But would she even want to leave, if she could?

For listeners who enjoy Vicious by V. E. Schwab, This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone, and The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart.

The sinister “Building that Wasn’t” exerts a strange pull not only on Everly but also on the listener! With a well-paced plot full of unexpected twists and turns, the story kept me guessing and eager to find out what happens next. The characters are intriguing, and I found myself wanting to know more about them. The narration was also excellent, adding depth to the experience. Overall, I highly recommend this book and look forward to future titles from this debut author. It's a compelling read that promises great things to come.

Very well crafted as characters and the buildings secrets are tantalizing revealed. The performance of the two narrators is excellent and brings the characters to life in your mind. Great first book from a new author. Looking forward to more from her.

Couldn’t stop reading as more and more secrets of the building are revealed.

One in a string of "nothing happens" books. I like a character-driven novel so I'm not dead set on a ton of plot, but if the characters aren't interesting or well developed and little has occurred at the half way mark then it's a DNF.

Gave up half way through
