About this listen

In Sue Hinkin’s award-winning thriller The Burn Patient, TV news photog, Lucy Vega, thought she’d seen her uncle’s murderer die in Guerrero. He was incinerated in a Jeep explosion while trying to put a bullet through her head. She didn’t know officials had never found the body.

Now, Gary Mercer, Hollywood bad boy, drug czar and psychopathic killer, is back from the dead with a new face, literally. This time his perverted sights are set on reporter Bea Middleton’s beautiful, naïve, 13-year-old daughter, Alyssa. Trafficking her into the porn industry would be the perfect instrument of revenge against Bea and Lucy, whom he blames for his horrific condition.

Mercer continues to recover from traumatic burn injuries, with the help a stunning, power-hungry trans woman with a penchant for cabaret performance and sewing roadkill. With her help, Mercer fights to claim undisputed leadership of the black tar heroin cartel which has been badly shaken by the death of its long-time jefe. As Bea’s daughter sneaks off to audition for the music video that will result in her ruin, Mercer’s henchmen start a raging brush fire near Lucy’s Malibu ranch. She and Bea struggle to save Alyssa, the ranch, and end Mercer’s reign of terror.

gripping

This was an intensely compelling story. One situation after another kept me listening raptly on the edge of my seat with anticipation for what was coming next. Non stop suspense and drama. Paybacks on both sides. Body counts galore. A rollercoaster of emotions jam packed in here. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest opinion. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

Fantastic Mystery, Fantastic Story, Fantastic Listen!

A well written mystery featuring characters that are so well developed that they could be real people, scenarios that are so well thought out that I had no questions, and no issues following a complex and throughly engrossing plot. Time seemed to stand still, while at the same time passing at breakneck speed, as when I next looked at the clock I realized I should have been in bed long ago, yet I was still listening. I was that enthralled and lost in this story. I was overjoyed to realize at the end that the story isn’t over and will be continuing, and I can’t wait for the next book! The narration that brings this enthralling listen to life is fantastic! A thoroughly enjoyable experience! Five stars. I wish I could award many, many more!

Good storyline

I had trouble connecting with the narrator for this book. Just couldn’t visualise the characters. Other than that the storyline was good.

Super Thriller

I just started listening to audible books as I walk my grandson and is sleeping. I absolutely could not wait to listen to the book every week. Just one thriller after another. To make it even better, it was written about an area I live near, so many familiar names and descriptions. Can’t wait to start my next book!!! The Mermaid Broker!!

Go hum

It’s hard to separate but the story is not engaging but the narrator’s voice was so annoying I struggled to finish the book
