About this listen

"The audiobook is a classic example of a well-paced, intriguing thriller that is truly enhanced by excellent narration."—AudioFile

This is a multicast program.

In this “top-notch mystery thriller” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) from Alex Finlay, What Have We Done is a tale about the lives we leave behind and the secrets we carry with us forever.

One of the Most Anticipated Books of 2023:• BookPage • BookBub • E! News • Go BookMart • Goodreads • PopSugar • The Every Girl • She Reads • Beyond the Bookends

A stay-at-home mom with a past.

A has-been rock star with a habit.

A reality TV producer with a debt.

Three disparate lives.

One deadly secret.

Twenty five years ago, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were the best of friends, having forged a bond through the abuse and neglect they endured as residents of Savior House, a group home for parentless teens. When the home was shut down—after the disappearance of several kids—the three were split up.

Though the trauma of their childhood has never left them, each went on to live accomplished—if troubled—lives. They haven’t seen one another since they were teens but now are reunited for a single haunting reason: someone is trying to kill them.

To survive, the group will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their shared past—a past that holds the secret to why someone wants them dead.

It’s a reunion none of them asked for . . . or wanted. But it may be the only way to save all their lives.

What Have We Done is both an edge-of-your-seat thriller and a gut-wrenching coming-of-age story. And it cements Alex Finlay as one of the new leading voices in thrillers today.

The narrators were wonderful and the story got my attention. It was a little confusing at times as an audiobook, because it often skips from present day to the past with subtle transitions. I stayed interested throughout and there were some good twists, but it wasn’t my favorite book from this author.

Kept my interest but not my favorite from this author

Oh my goodness this was so good. Kept me in it the whole time! If I had an edge of my seat I would be on it.

Such a fast and crazy story

The performance was compelling and paced well. The story itself was hard to follow. Tons of characters, but none that I felt connected to or was pulling for. I had more questions than answers by the time I was finished listening.

A Bit Hard to Follow

Great story, took me a minute to get used to the jumping from character to character. Enjoyed the narration from all the narrators.
Overall, good find.

Great Book

I enjoyed this book. I wish Finlay had delved into the backstory involving Savior House more. Lisa Wingate’s Before We Were Yours did an excellent job guiding the reader into the plight of a child in an abusive group home. There is a fine line on this topic. People struggle hearing about abuses towards children that can happen—yet, for this story in particular, I think a bit more description would’ve added another star. The stories told from life at Savior House were vague and didn’t allow me, as a reader, to connect to the depth of the trauma the characters felt.

The opening scene of the book was very interesting and had my attention. The way Finlay described “the boy with the soft heart” without using a name was very gripping. However, soon it was quite clear who this character was. I’d hoped for a little more guessing. There were plenty of red herrings in this book, but they were easy to spot. That’s ok—I don’t have to have a surprise ending with every book. The journey getting there is what I enjoy.

I am very satisfied that Finlay did NOT go the route of involving The Corporation with the overtired story of trying to kill their own (former) employee. In fact, the ending was most satisfactory!

The book was good. I’m excited to read more from Finlay.

Good Story!

I love Alex Finlay. Every Last Fear is one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. This one took me a minute to get into, and to me there were too many characters to keep straight. But once I got into it I was all in. It's not an all time favorite, but it's a solid 4 stars. And the narration was great.

Still a solid 4 stars
