Publisher's summary
The nine-time bestseller of the year that has transformed the lives of millions around the world. Over five million copies sold.
In a small café at a location so remote it stands in the middle of the middle of nowhere, John—a man in a hurry—is at a crossroads. Intent only on refueling before moving along on his road trip, he finds sustenance of an entirely different kind.
In addition to the specials of the day, the café menu lists three questions all diners are encouraged to consider: Why are you here? Do you fear death? Are you fulfilled?
With this food for thought and the guidance of three people he meets at the café, John embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Along the way, he discovers a new way to look at life, himself, and just how much you can learn from a green sea turtle.

They say you shouldn't ask your mom whether your business is a good idea, because she loves you and will lie to you. This is technically true, but it misses the point. You shouldn't ask anyone if your business is a good idea. It's a bad question, and everyone will lie to you at least a little. As a matter of fact, it's not their responsibility to tell you the truth. It's your responsibility to find it, and it's worth doing right.

I learned a great many things on the hiking trails of America. One of the most important is that we all climb mountains. Every. Single. Day. I thought I was just hiking mountains. What I was really doing was learning valuable lessons that I could equate directly to life. Hiking thousands of miles over perhaps hundreds of mountains all over the United States teaches you a lot. With that said, you don’t have to be a hiker to enjoy any of these revelations.

Hailed as a masterpiece of American travel writing, Blue Highways is an unforgettable journey along our nation's backroads. William Least Heat-Moon set out with little more than the need to put home behind him and a sense of curiosity about "those little towns that get on the map-if they get on at all-only because some cartographer has a blank space to fill: Remote, Oregon; Simplicity, Virginia; New Freedom, Pennsylvania; New Hope, Tennessee; Why, Arizona; Whynot, Mississippi." His adventures, his discoveries, and his recollections of the extraordinary people he encountered along the way amount to a revelation of the true American experience.

I am on a ‘life purpose’ path and this book ranks with “The Alchemist”. It’s a lovely listen and a great conversation to have with yourself as if you are in the cafe. I’d definitely order the breakfast special and stay for all the insightful conversations.

I enjoyed listening while I was painting by number - one of my new favorite winter relaxing hobbies. There wasn’t any new information for me - I agree with John, Mike, and Casey already….what I’m wondering is, “How do I get my friends who are spinning their wheels and working themselves to the bone for retirement to read/listen?”

Wow
In tears by Chapter 3. Needed this so much in my life right now. Halfway through the book and prior to the “right time” and “being ready” parts of the book, I asked myself where this book was in my late 20’s, and answered myself almost immediately. I just wasn’t ready then. So inspiring.
