About this listen

Colin Baker (Doctor Who) stars in this delightful adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic tale of the ghost who has lost his knack at haunting. When a modern American family moves into an old English manor with a sinister history, they ignore the warnings and hauntings by the house's fearful, cantankerous, spectral inhabitant... Horror and hilarity will ensue in this timeless, family-friendly entertainment - featuring a full cast, sound effects, and an original musical score.

Bowdlerized abridgement of Wilde's classic

I knew that the story would be abridged and modified for the audio-drama format, but I didn't expect it to be changed so much as to be unrecognizable. The reduction of the cast of characters was bad enough, weakening the funniest scenes in the story, but the complete gutting of the backstory of the ghost and his curse removed the remaining drama and poignancy, and made the tale's conclusion rather weak and pointless. The voice actors did a good job with the material they were given, but the production is NOT successful, in tone, story, humor, or emotion. And the addition of a talking bird as a sidekick for the ghost made me cringe. I definitely do not recommend this.
