About this listen

For three months, the police find no clues in the stabbing death of Hope Devane, the author of a pop-psychology best-seller. So they turn to Dr. Alex Delaware to study the case for insights that might point to a killer.

As Alex unlocks the private compartments of Hope's life, the murder looks calculated and vengeful. A study of her childhood reveals that she kept secrets from everyone. It also helps Alex set a trap for the killer.

This is the first book that I have been disappointed with in this series. The ending is just chopped off—no closure. You can surmise what happened, but there is no real ending. Any of us that have dealt with the court system know that it isn’t always easy, or what you expect to happen. I want to know that the story worked out the way it should!

I am a regular consumer of audible, and yet I found this book to be rather confusing due to the sheer numbers of characters. If I had it to do over again I would've kept notes on who is who.
The narration was excellent and I enjoyed the plot, but the dozens of characters were confusing for me. Not a great book to listen to while you're driving.

So many characters

The narrator made this book interesting. The actual story was really good. The writer's style reminds me of Steven White. A writer I also enjoy very much. I recommend this book and writer.

kept me interested and wanting more

Although Kellerman’s books have similar features, each one is distinctive. They are full of surprises. Kellerman crafts THE CLINIC carefully. Milo continues to be a fine character to work with Alex.

Powerful

Would you be willing to try another book from Jonathan Kellerman? Why or why not?

I am reading the entire Alex Delaware series from book #1 to the conclusion

Which character – as performed by Alexander Adams – was your favorite?

Alex Delaware was he best

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, because the length of the reading was longer than 8 hours.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book, right up until the ending which was rather abrupt, with no handshake or thank you ma'am

A Rather Abrupt Ending

As the mystery unwound I became less and less engaged by the story....I came to care less and less...and then it ended. Great expectations unfulfilled in the end game. The culmination of my involvement was a “ so, who cares anyway”?

Empty fulfillment

I found the book fair reading, yet perdictable. I felt it was extremly slow at points but rushed thrgh the climax at the end.

Fair
