About this listen
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from best-selling and acclaimed author Holly Black. Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown's gates, you can never leave.
One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from best-selling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

A girl makes a secret sacrifice to the faerie king in this lush New York Times best-selling fantasy by author Holly Black. In the woods is a glass coffin. It rests on the ground, and in it sleeps a boy with horns on his head and ears as pointed as knives...Hazel and her brother, Ben, live in Fairfold, where humans and the Folk exist side by side. Since they were children, Hazel and Ben have been telling each other stories about the boy in the glass coffin, that he is a prince and they are valiant knights, pretending their prince would be different from the other faeries.

Charlie Hall has never found a lock she couldn’t pick, a book she couldn’t steal, or a bad decision she wouldn’t make. She's spent half her life working for gloamists, magicians who manipulate shadows to peer into locked rooms, strangle people in their beds, or worse. Gloamists guard their secrets greedily, creating an underground economy of grimoires. And to rob their fellow magicians, they need Charlie Hall.

Story
Zach, Poppy, and Alice have been friends forever. And for almost as long, they’ve been playing one continuous, ever-changing game of pirates and thieves, mermaids and warriors. Ruling over all is the Great Queen, a bone-china doll cursing those who displease her. But they are in middle school now. Zach’s father pushes him to give up make-believe, and Zach quits the game. Their friendship might be over, until Poppy declares she’s been having dreams about the Queen - and the ghost of a girl who will not rest until the bone-china doll is buried in her empty grave.

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

Great listen
Narration is awesome! I usually only listen to audible while driving but i found myself tuning in to this book while at home too. Characters are fun and keep you guessing with some decent development. Great story line and the ending leaves you satisfied but still wanting more. I would definitely recommend if something kind of creepy is your style!

I feel differently about this book the second time. It's still very good, and an incredibly creative take in vampires. I had forgotten the ending. The story and the reading are great.

The opulent, decadent read we all need
This book is like the first hours before dawn- still dark, mysterious and unpredictable. Holly Black is a very talented writer who knows exactly how to put you at the edge of your sit with this puzzle of a book with its different POVs and plot twists. I couldn’t get enough of her lush and intricate plot filled with dark and complicated characters.

Great book!
If you could sum up The Coldest Girl in Coldtown in three words, what would they be?
Best Vampire Book
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tana- she kicks ass, but is realistic and easy to relate to. Gavriel- he's a bit messed up in the head, but he's hard not to love.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end scene was a great ending to a great book, I only wished the book went on for 400 more pages.
Any additional comments?
If you're a fan of Robin McKinley's "Sunshine" or Julie Kagawa's Blood of Eden Series, you will love this book! Also, this narrator was fantastic, I hope she narrates more audiobooks in the future!

Maybe better for teens
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No, it was ok but not something I would recommend.
Would you be willing to try another book from Holly Black? Why or why not?
Probably not
Which character – as performed by Christine Lakin – was your favorite?
She did a good job with all the characters. I just never felt attached to any of them, not because of the performance but just no real connection.
Was The Coldest Girl in Coldtown worth the listening time?
It wasn't a complete waste of time. Just wouldn't recommend for anyone other than a teenager.

Cool story but...
As far as vampire stories go, I enjoyed this one. It took me a minute to get into it simply because it's very true to typical YA. I really loved how original the lore was, but I (personally) had a hard time relating to the characters that were of typical high school trope. The major problem I had was with the narrator and why all of the officials near the cold town had a southern accent when they, in fact, were in Massachusetts. The acting choice was a little jarring and confused me and it took me out of the story. Otherwise, cool story...literally.
