About this listen

Someone is killing sheep in the Cotswolds. Or something. As Holmes and Watson arrive in the tranquility of a little village of shepherds and farmers to enjoy a few restful days in the idyllic countryside, strange things start to occur. While Holmes locks himself in his hotel room, consumed by depression, Watson is left to explore the surroundings on his own, acquainting himself with both the local shepherding community, the eccentric vicar, and the local folklore concerning a mysterious werewolf.

It isn't long before the murderer directs his attention to other prey than sheep, and Holmes is forced out of his ennui into a world of fog-enshrouded moors, wild men, pitchforks, and a big bad wolf.

This volume also includes four shorter stories in the vein of Conan Doyle: "The Adventure of the Velvet Lampshade", "The Adventure of the Missing Mudlark", "The Adventure of the Forking Paths", and "The Adventure of the One-Armed Pugilist".

This was a wonderful version of this book. Sheep are being killed and then it escalates and Holmes shows up to investigate. Nigel Peever was an excellent narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is very well done and the narrator did an awesome job bring each and ever character alive most of the stories just grab you from the beginning to the end.

One one and only Sherlock Holmes

I am a Holmesian, and 100% ,without question, a lifelong fan. I grew up on Holmes and was Weaned on Basil Rathbone, was stunned by Jeremy Brett, and have cherished the Holmes collection for as long as I can remember.

Anderson captures the heart of what makes Holmes tick; he understands the nuanced relationship between him and Watson, and he crafts mysteries in the same vein as Doyle. It's a real pleasure to experience this tale.

Peever is practically perfect in the preaching of the gospel of Holmes, and undoubtedly delights the listener with a bevy of voices that seem as limitless as the creations that come from a make-up artist's kit.

I have to listen to the Neck Tie tale now. Be worried, because this level of writing is addictive.

Gets to the core of Sherlock

This collection of short stories falls a little short for me. Mr. Andersson almost captures the essence of Holmes and maybe with a bit more work he'll make it. The narration was excellently done. Nigel Peever once again brings an audio book to life for the listener. I love when a narrator gives the characters their own unique voices and emotions. Not a bad listen but there are better out there.

I've Heard Worse

Having read/listened to many “in the style of Conan Doyle” stories, I can confirm that this is a very good one. “The Sensible Necktie” may be even better. Recommended for those who prefer Holmes stories with no modern flourishes.

Effective pastiche

SAVE YOUR $$$$ OR CREDIT, COULD HAVE VERY GOOD READ IF NOT FOR NARRATION. THE VOICE OF SHERLOCK WAS THE WORST.

NARRATION IS ABISMAL, STORY IS NOT TO BAD BUT THE DELIVERY IS HORRIBLE

The Cotswold Werewolf.
I love a good Sherlock Holmes novel.
And this fits the bill.
Dr Watson is so realistic.
Great entertainment and as close to the original as I've read.

Another Sherlock Holmes shorts. I always liked listening to this narrator. He was able to create voices unique to each character. It made it easy to follow the story.
