Publisher's summary

Captain Nancy Martin expects a lonely death.

Passing out as her battle-damaged starfighter bleeds the last of its air, she comes to in the cavernous and deserted docking bay of an unknown starship. Leaving her crippled fighter to seek help, she finds she's been scooped up by a gigantic generation ship inhabited by the descendants of the original crew and passengers - people whose entire universe is the ship!

Mistaken for the vast ship's long-lost and near-mythical Captain, Nancy is welcomed as a savior. She believes she's found the allies she needs in her desperate fight for survival. But an even greater menace lurks in the shadows of the ship - one that controls every inch of the ship and every life aboard it. One that will stop at nothing to destroy - The Counterfeit Captain.

Set in the same universe as Vogel's best-selling novel, The Fugitive Heir, The Counterfeit Captain further expands the stage for Vogel's exciting brand of star-spanning science fiction adventure.

Narrator saves the day but it's not enough.

I liked the story line. It was imaginative, fast paced, and not falsely loaded with the time, date, and place at the start of every chapter, nor did the author add any steamy bedroom romps and he cleverly told the story without using the garbage mouthed characters that almost all new authors use. But, yes there's always a "but", he still needs to flesh out his characters. They seem to be a little flat and the book's plot gets a little predictable and a little rushed, especially the last chapter. The narrator, Heidi Cox, does a very good job. She adds to the sparse characters with expression., giving them all a distinction which they sorely need. No, I won't be buying any more of this series or the Heir/Pair series. They're just too "blah".

Fun, short generation ship adventure

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an entertaining listen. For whatever reason I found it reminiscent of Heinlein's juveniles. The characters were likable and the female protagonist was strong and intelligent.

The narration was well done.

I wasn't crazy about everyone having a "loose" personality. No one appeared chaste.

I will look for more of Mr. Vogel's work.

Great tale of romance and adventure.

I liked this story of a generation ship discovered many years after it had gone astray. The main characters are well developed and likeable, the villains believable, and the story was very well performed by the Heidi Cox.
