About this listen

How far would you go to protect your child?

I knew something was wrong. It’s a mother’s instinct.

I could tell when my son started hiding things from me. He used to walk to school with a mischievous grin on his beautiful face. Now he avoids eye contact and keeps his head down.

Since I discovered he’s being bullied by a classmate, I’ve spent every day worrying, my stomach churning with anxiety from the moment he leaves the house to the second he walks back through the door.

Everyone keeps telling me I’m overreacting, but I won’t risk my child’s safety. My husband and I try to talk to the other boy’s parents, but it only makes things worse....

Then our precious child is hurt. Enough is enough. It has to stop. Even if that means taking matters into our own hands.

Because we know the truth about the family targeting our son—it’s not the first time they’ve done this. So the question is, exactly how far will we go to get revenge?

A nail-biting psychological thriller from the number one best-selling author of The Doctor’s Wife. If you love Behind Closed Doors, Gone Girl, and The Housemaid, you’ll be hooked on The Couple’s Revenge.

The fact that I was able to know what was going to happen before it did….

I love this author. With disappointed me about this book was the fact that the couple was leaving out so many things that you would think would have had to be talked about before a lot of things happened. I enjoyed the book a lot. But, there were no conversations about certain things that should’ve been evidentlike alibis and trace evidence stuff like that… There was a point when I realized who did so that made it more exciting and I did get teary-eyed but I don’t know

Loved It

As usual, another fast-paced thriller from Hurst who never disappoints. I loved the story and the narration. My only complaint is that his books are too short. I hate when they end so quickly!

Wildly Entertaining!

The king of thrillers and revenge plots returns following The Doctor's Mistress with a new 2024 riveting standalone—THE COUPLE'S REVENGE! When the family's teen son is being bullied, it escalates and becomes dangerous; they take matters (REVENGE) into their own hands in this emotionally charged, twisty whodunit!

From Before, Now to After told from POV: Sara and Guy.

Meet wife, mother, Sara; husband, father, Guy, and two children, Amber and Jacob. Jacob is now fifteen years old, and Amber is away at university.

Guy and Sara notice that Jacob (almost 16) is acting strange. He is withdrawn and quiet. Is he being bullied? Of course, when questioned, he refuses to say, which may make matters worse.

Within the community, there has been much publicity regarding a bully named Mason, who caused so much pain; a young teen girl, Zoe, committed suicide years earlier due to his horrific bullying. A tragedy. They know the victim's family, and yet nothing was done to the Mason family.

The only thing is they expelled the boy, and he now attends Jacob's school.

When Guy takes his son Jacob out for a football game to get him talking, he notices some bruises on his side. Turns out he was attacked and kicked by Mason. Guy and Sara are very upset, and Guy goes over to Mason's house to confront them drunk and winds up both punching and now arrested. Now, his job is in jeopardy, and he works from home as the video goes viral.

Mason gets expelled from this school, but Jacob is embarrassed and scared of Mason, the bully, and what he will do next. Then, a week or so later, he is attacked at a public park, beaten almost to death, and winds up in the hospital, witnessed by his teammates. Mason again!

In the meantime, while at the hospital, worried over their son, Guy and Sara devise a plan to get rid of Mason since they think the law will not take care of the problem. They cannot be with their son 24/7. They must protect him.

Also, Kevin Atkinson (father of the girl, Zoe, who committed suicide), due to Mason's bullying, says he is glad Guy confronted the boy's family and wished there was a way he could have saved his little girl from this monster before he killed someone else.

Guy begins following Mason to see where he goes and his schedule. He and his wife come up with a kidnapping plan. However, this is Daniel Hurst, and the kidnapping does not go according to plan. Of course, some of the forensics do not get noticed there, but this is fiction. However, someone beats them to the punch.

What the heck happened, and now what will happen to their family?

WOW! Daniel knows how to keep you up late at night, frantically turning the pages to see how this will turn out! With a mix of humor, domestic, family drama, psychological suspense, and emotionally charged topics of bullying and suicide, The Couple's Revenge is another knockout, entertaining domestic thriller that could be ripped from today's headlines. I liked the characters Sara/Guy! What a duo!

How far would you go to protect your family? A cautionary tale. Hurst fans and fans of Frieda McFadden, Miranda Rijks, and Emily Shiner will enjoy this one.

AUDIOBOOK: In addition to the e-book I listened to the audiobook narrated by favorites, Imogen Church and George Weightman vividly brought the characters to life with a highly entertaining listening experience! 4.5 Stars

Twisted

The twist in the book was excellent. I love getting lost in a Daniel Hurst thriller. How he creates these characters and storylines that hold you hostage is fantastic.

This was a heavy topic, but I felt it was handled well. Bullying is a challenging situation for kids and parents to go through. I did find Sara and Guy a tad overbearing for having a 15-year-old. It was not about how they handled the situation when they discovered Jacob being bullied, more so every other aspect of his life.

I devoured this book. It is fast-paced and chaotic in the best way. The moral dilemmas in this book were well done and allowed the reader to ask what they would do.

Personally, as a devoted (and crazy, as my niece would say) auntie, I can assure you I would go absolutely feral. While I may not handle things the same as in the book, I would cause quite the scene at the home of the bully.

I love Daniel’s worst so much. It is brilliant how such a kind human can write such dark, twisted stories. I’m ready for the next one, bestie!

Imogen Church does it again

Imogen Church is my favorite narrator ! She levels up this book! Im a sucker for domestic thrillers! How far will a parent go to protect their child from a bully? Kind of reminded me of that Brady Bunch episode where Cindy gets bullied by the ruffian Buddy Hinton, And just like when Mr. Brady confronts Mr Hinton the bullies parents just shrug and say 'boys will be boys'. Only in this story I never did understand why Mason was so violent with Jacob? So much so that Jacob ends up in the hospital - there needed to be a reason. Other than that annoyance I really enjoyed the story. This is my first Daniel Hurst book and I will definitely be checking out his other books. If you like Frieda Mcfadden books you will enjoy this!

Book was good, but the narrator was terrible

The narrators were so off putting. Especially the female. It was over the top with the dramatic way she read this book. I liked the book, but I wish I could have just read it myself

This is a great author and this book is probably great on paper but …

The readers are not good. The female reader is so strident and angry with a lot of odd pauses. It is an angry theme but endless rage makes listening hard!

Wow!

How I love twists. Though I did figure it out by the end of the trial. I am sure that any parent that has had a child being bullied to the severe point of this book would want revenge. Or at least think about it. It’s sad that parents don’t teach their children not to bully. Kids don’t have to like each other they just need to stay away from each other. But this was a very entertaining story that kept me listening to it all in one sitting. I love books by Daniel Hurst and when I saw that Imogene Church was one of the readers I was pleasantly surprised. Someone said in another review that they didn’t like her because of her shouting. But honestly it was justified because any good mother would be fuming if her child was getting bullied. I thought the narration was great. So worth the listen.
