About this listen

An exciting standalone Cthulhu Casebooks narrative, a thrilling tale of mystery and dread, from the New York Times bestselling author.

It’s 1929 and an aging Dr. John Watson, conscious of his imminent demise, finally sits down to write a fresh chronicle disclosing the true events behind his published accounts of Sherlock Holmes’s exploits. In these pages, Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart companion encounter reanimated corpses in Highgate Cemetery; a very different, though ever elusive, Irene Adler; tales of madness and murder in the frozen wastes of the north; grotesque organic machines; and much more. Each case brings the illustrious pair ever closer to the dramatic and terrifying truth about the mysterious aliens, the Mi-Go, and their plans for Earth …

Not as good as the previous books

I am actually a little disappointed. I kept waiting for the story to get going and it just didn’t then boom everything gets resolved and the whole thing is over. Idk. The others were so much more exciting and in depth. Narrator was great story was just a little flat.

Extra slice of cake

I was glad to have it but I didn’t really need it. Could have had more Lovecraft by style and content

Very enjoyable

A satisfying conclusion to the Lovecraftian adventures in multiple ways. Well performed by Dennis Kleinman. I'd still swear that "Ia!" should be pronounced "EEE-yah" and not "eye-EH," but whatever.

Several connected stories in one

I didn’t like this one as much as the other three, as he mentions in the author’s note, it seems like some pieces from his own life really show through and affected his writing.
That being said, it is well written, the continuity with other books is amazing, showing the several individual cases and how they link together was so well done that it doesn’t feel like a bunch of short stories. It was more Holmes than Lovecraft this time as well, so if you’ve been reading/listening to the books for the Lovecraft bits then I would suggest waiting on this one. If you’ve been reading them for the Holmes bits, jump in with both feet.

Overall Good

The thing that bothered me most were the few minutes where Holmes basically espoused modern day trans activism to Watson. It’s completely ridiculous for the setting and made me want to stop listening. Luckily it was only a few minutes and overall the story was good. I wish authors would stop adding agendas to their stories where they don’t belong. Write a separate book for it if you care so much.

Riveting

Excellent storytelling unable to stop listening until it was done
Left lasting impression and is a fit ending for Sherlock but sad for Dr. Watson

D.D.B.

Great Story. I love the way that the 3 previous books had a good sense of continuity to this one, as well as the references to previous stories from A.C.D. It's the same as it ever was, with the awesome combination of J. Lovegrove & D. Kleinman.👍

Wonderful finale!

Well read by Dennis Kleinman! I've enjoyed this series, and this finale is an admiral end. Thank you, Mr. Lovegrove, for the trans representation in this story. It’s much appreciated. And thank you for the effort you e put into these stories, they have become one of my all-time favorite series.

End of the book

This was a very interesting story and a very fine conclusion. Well, the implied suicide of Dr. Watson is a little heart wrenching. The story is very good overall.
