Same formula:but it still works

If you've read the previous books in the series you know the formula. The author is like a cook who cooks the same comfort food again and again. That isn't necessarily a bad thing as he is really good at it. I would say this is my favorite of the series so far. that is because it the story gets moving faster than the previous books. The other books you have to slog through the first several chapters before the story gains momentum.

This book you start off with a character you know who also is not being thrown out of recluse. So, it is at least slightly different. I think the real draw to this series is you care about the characters and world and want to see how things turn out. I enjoyed this one, more in fact than the previous ones. You have to have read the previous books, but if you have then It's worth a listen.

Long and full of many stories in one.

As always I enjoyed Modesitt’s story telling. His character development is superb and his created world holds together well. There were many side journeys in the longer tale but as always his story was worth the effort. A shorter more direct story might have been more enjoyable.

Brings out the feels

An extended development of characters and their own development with each other placed a lot more emphasis on the human element of the story. The conclusion of the saga of recluce was surprisingly touching while still delivering heavy doses of the ideas behind the order/chaos system the series explores.

Masterful

It was another riveting tale in this great saga. A wonderful work that very effectively brought together the many pieces from the previous books, blending them all in one fused image that really was wonderful to experience, while simultaneously being very bittersweet. Excellent, all the way around.

Another great addition to the Recluce Saga!

Enjoyed the Spellsong series a lot in the late 90's, am just now getting around to "Recluce" & really am enjoying it. Narration is great, tho I do kick up the speed just a bit. Thanks for a great story Mr Modesitt!

Good series

I liked it well enough, but I could do without so many "sound effects". Fortunately, not as many as I the first few books.

Just wow

What a payoff. This was amazing climax to the first 4 books. What a way to do it.

Enjoyed the previous 4 but almost didn't finish!

Constant strategizing plus reflection about the nature of order, interspersed with occasional action and interaction.
