About this listen

Ophelia Reid is an incomparable beauty with a reputation for starting rumors and spreading them. Having purposely wrecked her engagement to Duncan MacTavish, a future marquis, which her social-climbing father arranged, Ophelia wants to return to London's marriage mart and make her own choice of a wealthy husband.

But on her journey home, something unexpected happens. The heir to a dukedom, Raphael Locke, Viscount Lynnfield is - in spite of his disinterest in marriage - the most sought-after young lord in England. He instantly disliked Ophelia when she caused a scandal to avoid marriage to his friend MacTavish, but having comforted her in a tearful moment, he begins to wonder if she's not all bad. So when MacTavish claims that Ophelia will never be anything but a spiteful beauty, Rafe bets his best friend that he can turn her into a kind-hearted lady who will one day make a good match, just not with him.

With her parents' blessing, Rafe commandeers Ophelia's coach and whisks her - chaperoned, of course - to his remote estate in the countryside. There, as he tries to show his furious, sharp-tongued "guest" the error of her ways, he discovers the surprising reasons for her bad behavior.

Soon his daily lessons with Ophelia take effect and he finds himself irresistibly attracted to her. When Rafe champions the new and improved Ophelia's re-entry to London society, marriage proposals pour in. Only then does Rafe start to wonder whether he hasn't gone and fallen in love with Ophelia himself.

Do you remember that saying from childhood? Oh what a tangled web we weave, if at first we try to deceive....Ophelia Reed was never taught not to lie as a child but will she learn that lesson as an adult?
Beauty can take you only so far in life, you also need compassion, understanding and love to take you the remainder of the way.
If you want to know if Ophelia's evil ways and incomparable beauty prevented her from achieving her dreams, then I recommend you downloading The Devil Who Tamed Me...

What a snoozer! The heroine was irritating and the hero was so smug. I skipped to the end.

Could not finish the book

The only issue I had was the change in accent for characters from the first book in the series. having listened to them back to back, it was a bit abrupt.

different accents for some characters

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!

After reading bk1 The Heir I thought I would hate Lady Opehlia Reid daughter of an Earl. She was a mean girl. Stuck on her beauty and spoiled. But Johanna Lindsey did an Amazing Job showing you the how and why Opehlia was none of these things.

I loved the romance between Opehlia and Viscount Raphael/Rafe Locke Heir to a very rich and powerful dukedom.

The story moves fast I love the characters and Rafe and Opehlia HEA! This story will go on my re read list!!

EXCELLANT NARRATION

Loved it. One of my favorite stories. I have enjoyed it several times. The characters are funny but memorable.

Great story.

I used to enjoy this author so perhaps my taste has changed over the years. The reader made the mediocre story even worse by growling the male characters.

glad it was on the sale table

I loved THE HEIR so of course got the next chapter. I figured with the same narrator I couldn't go wrong. wow, was I mistaken. the reading was rather fast and the voices were not close to the same.
still a good story however.

fast narrator

I listen to the whole book in two days. The story was engaging. The narrator could do a better job but overall it was good.

Entertaining enough

This story begins a second line in a trilogy so it continues a really good tale of the THE HEIR. It was a lot more engrossing then I anticipated. I really did not see the surprise ending coming and enjoyed the twist to the classic story. I will definitely be moving on the the third book.

Raif seemed more than just a do-gooder on a power-trip. It seems from the beginning that he really does care about her as a person before he fails for her person.

Classic Taming of the Shrew story with a surprise
