Publisher's summary

Trick the humans, steal the gold, gain the power, achieve god-like status. The motivations of a Diabolical Dragon.

Orion's unknown father...yeah, that shitty guy was a fey dragon. When Orion matures into a man, he spends a day in the snow transforming into a warehouse-sized dragon. Now he's hunted. Vile humans want to adorn his head as a trophy in their halls. Except, instead of letting the humans hound him, Orion blends in, swapping between dragon and human to carry out his diabolical plans.

Warning: This novella is not for the faint of heart. It contains a bad guy...an actual villain. Does he have motivations? Sure, but he still is the Diabolical Dragon. Contains a magical fantasy setting where men use dowries for their daughters, monster fey are considered scum, and nobility can do just about anything they want if they have enough gold.

This second edition contains all new chapters with 20 percent more content than before. Enjoy.

Well done

As far as the review goes this was a very well written story and the narrators did a fantastic job. The story is broken into four acts of which my favorites are the second and third. The ending was pretty good and made me think of the feeling I had at the end of Michael Scott Earle’s The Destroyer. With that said overall the slavery in the story and specially, even though the main character is evil, his active participation in it really bothered me. Like the aforementioned series for me it's a one and done and if there was ever to be additional books tied to this one, I would be out. That's just my personal preference. I would still recommend this book at least the people that I know would enjoy it.

Expected better

I have several of Marcus’ books and truly enjoyed just about all of them but this one is somewhat lacking. It’s like he cobbled together pieces of the layouts of what should have been four epic books into one massively time jumping and sometimes confusing one that often eludes to portions of the plot line that was left out or makes one think that this is the second, third or addendum to another book.

I would love to see this get broken up into more books that are better fleshed out because some of the story line that is missing sounds extremely interesting.

low key awesomeness

subtle charge in out look. maybe spoiler alert. # dragon playing human. I highly appreciate to change. Bad guy...mmmm not not so bad dragon. my absolute only con.... female voice needs a little more range. But over all.... timeliness in the story is ehhhh... but I only paused it for sleep. Definitely different from the stereotypes. But if book 2 comes out im gonna buy it. I want to know more about Gloria... wink wink.

Mc is not a good guy…

That being said he’s not a guy period but he’s definitely more “Fostering Faust” compared to Dragon Emperor. Read or listen and you will see the reason I chose those two examples.
It’s broken up into 4 Acts which is nice, though it went by pretty quickly. I definitely recommend!

Great Story of A Diabolical Villan

Now this is a story about a Villan I can support. Being a dragon our MC is understandably not constrained by human morals. Yet he does maintain a sense of right and wrong all while being a Diabolical Villan. He has his own set of morals that he follows. And while he does sell people into slavery, he only does so when his lovers abandon him and his "benevolence" leaving him feeling slightly betrayed. Understandable, given he, as a dragon, is a hoarder and does not approve of letting his "possessions" go without benefit to him.

Many people might see this MC as pure Evil but I think the benevolence he shows his own people is what is the most telling in that regards. His people gradually flourish while almost every other nation around his has considerable trouble with some being destroyed from within and others from invasion. But the people under his thumb have mostly happy productive lives.

Can you really call that evil? Diabolical absolutely. But Evil... I don't think so.
