Story
The day I was told I’d never be able to have a child, my world came crashing down. My husband says he still loves me, but I lie awake at night, wishing we could have a family. One morning, my husband’s side of the bed is cold and empty. I hear a noise and head downstairs. In the middle of the rug in my living room is a wooden drawer. Swaddled inside, with perfect rosy cheeks and beautiful round blue eyes, a baby gazes up at me.

I walk past rows of immaculate white roses into the Kane family’s picture-perfect home, thinking that I’d never guess what’s happened behind closed doors. Story
Veronica Dugan was as seductive as she was ambitious. As a small town newspaper reporter, her dreams of the big time sometimes clouded her judgment. Veronica would get the story at any cost, using every tool at her disposal–sometimes even her smoldering sexuality. But her take-no-prisoners style made enemies, so few could claim to be shocked when her body was found floating in the Mississippi River. Poisoned Waters introduces Deputy Tobias “Toby” Briggs. His determined investigation of Veronica Dugan’s murder leads him in directions no one could have anticipated.

I used to enjoy my job. I was good at it and felt fulfilled. I also used to enjoy spending time with the people I worked with. They say you spend more time with your work colleagues than you do with your family members, but that was fine by me because I made two very good friends at the office. I also allowed myself to get a little too close to my boss, but I soon realized that was a mistake. Unfortunately, it was too late by then, and as my personal and professional lives quickly blurred into one, that was when everything changed.

Six years ago, Maria Romano got her birthday wish—a kiss from Enzo Costa. A man she could never take her eyes off, but who seemed as haunted as her favorite book boyfriends and strictly off-limits. Just one unforgettable moment in the dark and then he was gone. Now Maria is a divorced single mom, moving on and open to romance again. Fatefully, it’s with the new head chef at her sister’s restaurant: Enzo. A gentler man than the one she remembers, yet fire still burns. And a warning still lingers: don’t get too close.

The telling in the present tense.
The telling in the present tense and narrators strong voice were intriguing and unusual. The story line was strong along with the determination of the characters. it was a bit more gory and violent than I usually like, but very engaging.

Unusual
For the first half of the book, I wasn’t sure I would like it. It was very engrossing and asked the story evolved. It became more Interesting. Not sure I would really recommend it, but certainly kept me wanting to reach the conclusion to see how the story would end. In the final analysis, I would say it was a pretty good book.

Kept you wondering what was next...
Enjoyed the storyline, kept you interested and wondering what was next.. Unfortunately, I almost stopped listening because the narration was painful at times. Honestly, if you have time to read the book, you might enjoy it more.

great plot… long winded
The actual plot of this novel was fantastic however it took too long to get to the end of the novel and honestly the ending leaves you questioning OK well what next it does not leave you with a feeling of being complete with understand understanding and ending that was appropriate to the storyline. It had its ups and downs. It had a lot of great points really relatable, characters however it was just to drug out overall not a bad story great listening to for a long journey back-and-forth to work during the winter.
