About this listen

This program features multicast narration.

"A stunning and accomplished debut, with hugely relatable characters and an addictive storyline that kept me turning the pages well into the night. Bravo!"—BA Paris, New York Times bestselling author

"Wow, The Business Trip was nonstop twists and turns. I loved the unusual way that the story was told, and I kept reading all day long because I couldn't wait to see how it ended!"—Freida McFadden, New York Times bestselling author

THE BUSINESS TRIP is the gripping, binge-worthy debut from author Jessie Garcia.

Stephanie and Jasmine have nothing and everything in common. The two women don’t know each other but are on the same plane. Stephanie is on a business trip and Jasmine is fleeing an abusive relationship. After a few days, they text their friends the same exact messages about the same man—the messages becoming stranger and more erratic.

And then the two women vanish. The texts go silent, the red flags go up, and the panic sets in. When Stephanie and Jasmine are each declared missing and in danger, it begs the questions: Who is Trent McCarthy? What did he do to these women—or what did they do to him?

Twist upon twist, layer upon layer, where nothing is as it seems, The Business Trip takes you on a descent into the depths of a mastermind manipulator. But who is playing who?

Critic reviews

"Two ordinary women. Two very different lives. No overlap and nothing in common until a chance meeting on a westbound plane triggers a stunning, edge-of-your seat suspense that had me sick with apprehension as the pages turned."—TESS GERRITSEN

"Wow, The Business Trip had nonstop twists and turns. I loved the unusual way that the story was told, and I kept reading all day long because I couldn't wait to see how it ended!"—FREIDA MCFADDEN

"Jessie Garcia’s THE BUSINESS TRIP is a fast paced psychological thriller that lands you in a story that isn’t what it seems. Tightly paced with pages that practically turn themselves, you will race to find answers…and I promise you, they’re not what you think they are."—Julie Clark, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Flight

Kept me engaged the whole time!

Very well thought out storyline and good character development. I was intrigued the whole time. I’d recommend this book as a physiological thriller.

Best book of 2025! Jaw was literally on the floor at the end!

WOW. I'm speechless. The story outline is genius, and I can honestly say that my jaw was ON THE FLOOR at the end of this book. Absolutely brilliant! You won't be able to stop listening - I finished in a day. Wow, just... WOW!

Starts good, but then devolves into implausibility

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I was really hooked in the beginning, and I was super curious to know what happened when the two female characters disappeared. But then when we learned what happened, it just went downhill. The very last line of the book was so juvenile I laughed out loud.

Spoilers from this point...

The thing that really broke this story is the fact that Stephanie says nothing in the beginning about her big plan to hire someone to impersonate her so that she can go to Mexico. Everyone was telling their stories from their own points of view in excruciating detail. (Did we really need to know that Trent thought his eggs were overcooked??) So why wouldn't she have said something in her opening narrative about her "big plan"? Not even a hint.

Then when it was finally all revealed, it left me just shaking my head. There's a fine line between a shocking, unexpected twist and something that just breaks all the laws of probability. Again, the book is well written and kept my attention, but the ending fell flat for me. Especially that last line... ugh!!

Unique storyline

Enjoyed the different characters, however some were a little too stereotypical for me. Enjoyed the last twist.

Disappointing ending

Overall the story was intriguing, but the ending was a ridiculous twist that is nearly inconceivable. One too many layers in the unraveling of the master plan that was interesting enough on its own. Also, I found the narrator for ‘Stephanie’ to be robotic and unenjoyable to listen to. The majority of the plot was interesting, but I was left disappointed in the end.

Twists!!loves this

I love this book so much kinda was slow at the start and I felt like there were a lot of characters but midway through the book. Everything comes clear and then the twist hit.
