Publisher's summary

Written over the course of Leskov's career, each story in The Enchanted Wanderer elucidates the very essence of the human condition; themes of love, despair, loneliness, and revenge are explored against the backdrop of 19th-century working-class Russia. Leskov deftly layers social satire and subtle criticism atop myth and fable, resulting in a richly entertaining collection.

Perfect Narration for Leskov!

I love Leskov's lighthearted yet cynical view of humanity in 19th century Holy Russia. His stories are quite unique, even in English translation. This narrator absolutely nailed it. Hands down. Please do more of Leskov's stories!!!

A Different View of 19th c Russia

This is, of course, a masterful translation. the stories offer a very different view of Russia from what you find in Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. The collection really is a series of short stories and folk tales. The book is worth it if only for the title story, which is totally nuts! Highly recommend to fans of Russian literature.

Leskov is the master of Russian short stories. Dos

This collection far surpassed my expectations. The sheer variety of genres that Leskov touches on keeps this anthology fresh throughout all the stories.

A HUGE THANKS TO AUDIBLE for actually dividing the stories up into their own tracks and PROPERLY NAMING all the "chapters" with their story title! This makes the listening experience much better, and makes it very easy to return to a specific story in the future!

10/10 would recommend for anyone interested in 19th century literature, Russian lit, or classic short stories.

Sorely overlooked

Leskov is a terrific Russian storyteller and writer of the 19th century who is sorely overlooked in the west. Fascinating, humorous, tragic, in short, great Russian stories.
