About this listen

They called it the Thorn Hill Massacre - the brutal attack on a once-thriving Weir community. Though Jonah Kinlock lived through it, he did not emerge unscathed: like the other survivors Jonah possesses unique magical gifts that set him apart from members of the mainline guilds.

At seventeen, Jonah has become the deadliest assassin in Nightshade, a network that hunts the undead. Emma Claire Greenwood grew up worlds away, raised by a grandfather who taught her music rather than magic. An unschooled wild child, she runs the streets until the night she finds her grandfather dying, gripping a note warning Emma that she might be in danger. The clue he leaves behind leads Emma into Jonah's life - and a shared legacy of secrets and lingering questions.

Was Thorn Hill really a peaceful commune? Or was it, as the Wizard Guild claims, a hotbed of underguild terrorists? The Wizards' suspicions grow when members of the mainline guilds start turning up dead. They blame Nightshade, bringing tensions between the groups to a head. Racing against time, Jonah and Emma work to uncover the truth about Thorn Hill, amid increasing concern that whoever planned the Thorn Hill Massacre might strike again.

Stared off confusing, ended intriguing

As a book in the middle of a book series it was very confusing and off-putting. As a new book in the same universe as the old books it was very good. The beginning was very confusing. it was hard to understand what was going on and there were a lot of new elements to get used to. As the book went on it became much more enjoyable to read. I loved the Romantic interests. Forgetting the beginning for a second, this is the best book of the series.

Excellent, but hell of a cliffhanger

Its an amazing story, though I can't say too much without spoiling. Action, ill fated romance, and the downside of superpowers make an interesting combination. My only problem is it does end very abruptly: Feels like the middle of a scene.

It sucks you in and makes you want more.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who reads Fiction.

What other book might you compare The Enchanter Heir to and why?

This may be similar to other books like the Mortal Instruments series where both create worlds parallel to our own, or rather an equally thrilling series to Chima's other work with the Seven Realms books.

Did Robert Ramirez do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

There was a good differentiation between characters but it took me a bit to get accustomed to Ramirez style of presentation.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Boy Blue... with the kind of eyes you could get lost in.

Any additional comments?

I wish all the books where available in audiobooks! so I could dive in.

Cinda Chima does it again

Where does The Enchanter Heir rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to some truly great audiobooks, and Chima's work is at the top. I loved both the Demon King series and her Heir series. I was excited when I heard she was continuing with the Heirs and can't wait to read the next.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I fell in love quickly with both of the main characters. Jonah the misunderstood assassin with a heart of gold. And Emma, the talented misfit with spunk. Wonderful character development and interaction. It was nice to see familiar characters weaved throughout the story, even though they were not the focal point this time around.

Which scene was your favorite?

I was enthralled with the image of Jonah captivated the first time he heard Emma play. It was a magical, ethereal moment. It makes me smile just thinking of it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could barely put this one down and nearly did it all in one sitting.

Just my thoughts

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes I would suggest this book to a friend, but if they had the time to read it, instead of listening to it. The narrator sucks.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Robert Ramirez?

any one else

Could you see The Enchanter Heir being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I hope that they never try to make this in a movie. Too many time they try and move turns out to be horrible, and dose not do the book justice.

Nice continuation of the series

What did you love best about The Enchanter Heir?

I thought Chima continued the Heir world well. The introduction of "new" magical guilds brought some freshness to that world. I enjoyed the book and thought it was on par with her other books in the series. The first book in this 2 part continuation created many more questions than answers and seemed to mostly set up the final book. Be prepared for many cliffhangers.

Any additional comments?

In my opinion, the narration was really slow. There were a lot of unnecessary pauses. If the narrator had a little bit quicker pace, I would have enjoyed the narration. The voice fit the male character well.

This is where the series picks up

The narrator isn't bad, but he isn't great either. Though I've listened to people like P.J Ochlan, so maybe I've just been spoiled. The story is amazing. The first 3 are good, and I always love re-listening to them, but the quality and the way Cinda expands on the whole Heir universe in the last two books is amazing. Plus, I love hearing about Cleveland seeing as I grew up here. I remember Cinda came into my 2nd grade classroom to talk about Warriors Heir to the class, now I'm 27 and her books are still something I revisit here and there, aswell as recommend them to friends of mine.
