About this listen

The power of the element bonds flows through the lands of Terndahl. Shapers can control that power and use it.

With the threat of rogue elementals escaping from the element bond and fear of another attack by the Draasin Lord, life at the edge of Terndahl is difficult for Tolan. Without any magic of his own, he spends his days working a menial job as a carpenter’s apprentice. When an elemental attack draws the attention of the Inquisitors from the Academy, everything changes.

A mistake brings Tolan into the Terenhall Academy, a prestigious training ground for powerful shapers, but it’s a world where he doesn’t belong. Unlike his classmates, he can’t control the magic of the element bonds.

With no shaping ability, Tolan must find the fire within himself to succeed. If he can't, he'll not only be forced to leave the Academy, but the dangerous Draasin Lord might gain the very power he's long sought.

Excellent

Really enjoyed, and I wish the last two books would release soon. I tried to slow down listening and hopefully give more time for the books to release but I couldn't! I can see a movie series made from these very easily. Keep it going Mr. Holmberg!

Hard Meh!

This story was done better in the Cloud Warrior Saga, as a matter of facts this is essentially the same story but with a Harry Potter theme. Unfortunately, the protagonist shows no growth through these three books aside from power. The MC suffers from a horrible hero complex, power insecurities, and is so self-serving his it makes the story a struggle to get through. I wouldn't recommend this series and sad I wasted a credit.

A good series with lessons

I bought this series awhile ago and finally started it. I found it had a good start which was catchy. The story starts out in a small town and then moves to a capital city. Nothing is as it appears! The main character starts out knowing nothing, but unlike so many other stories they really apply themselves to learn before they're forced to learn! The story has a large underlying story which isn't resolved in these three books. If it had I would have given this story 1 star and walked away. Now I'm interested in the story and put it on my list to revisit once I complete the 100 unread books in my library! Plus I like the narrator and have listened him in the Bob verse series!

When you read this series I recommend you do the first three books non-stop and then move on. Otherwise the intricacy of the story can be forgotten. I hope you enjoy it.

I wanted to like it

The setting was good, and the story had potential. However, it ultimately fell flat. Most of the 3 books repeat the same things every 2 minutes with actual story progression sprinkled here and there. Drazen lord, my shaping is different, elementals, don't get caught sympathizing with the elementals. There, I just gave you 90% of the MC's inner thoughts throughout the 3 books. The MC is completely static. He doesn't learn from past mistakes while he ignores and lies to his friends. You barely get to know any other characters, and it's like the author is afraid you will forget the overarching mysteries if they don't mention them every paragraph.

flavor aid brand harry potter

it was ok. the main character was a whiney turd who did nothing but make bad decisions and wonders why everyone suspects him of being a secret agent of the bad guy. nothing super original about the main story elements and the delivery is an exercise in patience.

Cool story, lots of mystery. Story and path are good MC is sometime a little to clueless but there may be reasons for this. Will want to know how it finishes.
