About this listen

International sex researcher, neuroscientist, and columnist Debra Soh debunks popular gender myths in this scientific examination of the many facets of gender identity that “is not only eminently reasonable and beautifully-written, it is brave and vital” (Ben Shapiro, number-one New York Times best-selling author).

Is our gender something we’re born with, or are we conditioned by society? In The End of Gender, neuroscientist and sexologist Dr. Debra Soh uses a research-based approach to address this hot-button topic, unmasking popular misconceptions about the nature vs. nurture debate and exploring what it means to be a woman or a man in today’s society.

Both scientific and objective, and drawing on original research and carefully conducted interviews, Soh tackles a wide range of issues, such as gender-neutral parenting, gender dysphoric children, and the neuroscience of being transgender. She debates today’s accepted notion that gender is a social construct and a spectrum, and challenges the idea that there is no difference between how male and female brains operate.

The End of Gender is conversation-starting “required reading” (Eric R. Weinstein, PhD, host of The Portal) that will arm you with the facts you need to come to your own conclusions about gender identity and its place in the world today.

It was refreshing to read about the science without the noise of social media. Biology has a lot to say on this, and we can’t ignore it, no matter which path we choose.

Great book

This was a very brave book because it flies in the face of the cold like pseudoscientists of sex and sexual behavior. I learned a great deal especially about transgender‘s, LGBT, etc. but it also confirmed many of my impressions of what’s going onI made it for years old and spend my life in higher education, and I agree with just about everything Dr SohDiscusses. I recommend this book to people who can think for themselves.

The honest truth combined with intellectual integrity

This book represents a pointed, but exceedingly fair and nuanced critique of modern gender theory and activism. The author clearly knows her stuff and draws from her knowledge of a vast body of research. Highly recommended.

Important but fair critique of gender activism

It's important to note that I had goals going into reading this book: 1) Discover more about the topic of sexual and gender research as viewed through a scientific lens specifically. 2) Gain additional context into the choices of many of my friends and family for whom these topics have become recently salient points. 3) Dodge the ideologs that undermine the scientific process so as not to possibly offend groups of people. This book was precisely what I had hoped it would be and it managed to address those topics and more in a comfortably compact package of only a few hours. It's for those of us in desperate need of real grounded information about the rising wave of sexual and gender non-conformity in society as a whole. This book was for me a key stepping stone affirming some of the beliefs of which I was confident in but lacked the vocabulary to express. Additionally it offered information about several topics I hadn't previously known existed, and as such hadn't known are important to understanding the process and mechanisms that can motivate particular individuals to particular choices. Please read/listen to this book. Note: If you happen to work in human resources absolutely read/listen to this book.

Excellent piece, I'd argue essential in 2020
