Publisher's summary

A fatal blend of revenge and desire.

After leaving her fiancé at the altar and quitting her job as a Miami cop, Beau Hayley stumbles through life, feeling only resentment. Injustice. Loss. Her mom’s death was called an accident. She’s not convinced. Grieving, she becomes numb to everything except the constant, biting pain of heartbreak and hate. She can see no light. Until she meets James Kelly, a man who seems as damaged as she is, inside and out. And yet despite his twisted, cold façade, he stimulates feelings. Pleasure. He is a respite from her own flaws. A complete mystery.

And impossible to resist.

James Kelly has only one objective. Find the men who murdered his family and kill them all very slowly. But the web of crime and deceit leads him to Beau Hayley, the daughter of the notorious FBI agent who pursued him relentlessly until her death. Beau is not what James expected, and past the darkness that shrouds her, he finds a glimmer of light. Light is addictive. An escape. Beau might be the key to James’ mercy mission, but with dire consequences. So he has to decide - leave her breathing and risk exposing himself, or kill her and continue his mission, still unknown.

Two tortured souls playing one deadly game. But who will survive?

Loved everything except Erin Mallon

I hate coming down on narrators and I've never actually come right out and been so straight forward before, but I strongly dislike Erin Mallon's voice. Between sounding like she's whispering and as though she's always on the verge of crying, it grates so much on my nerves I have to frequently rip my headphones out. Her voice is simply too tremulous, regardless of what's happening, and it slams me out of the story way too often.
Her male voice is really good though, so at least there's that.

OMG what a cliffhanger!

I absolutely adored “The Brit”,the first book in the Unlawful Men trilogy, and my expectations were really high. I definitely fell in love with James Kelly, the anti-hero in this dark tale of loss, revenge, and lust, that surprisingly turned into a story of love, redemption and the search for justice. I have to admit that it took me a while to warm up to Beau, the somewhat unsympathetic heroine, who struggles with her own feelings of loss and revenge and the need for justice. They fight their attraction and feelings for each other for a long time and the story dragged for just a bit in the middle. The last third of the book though was a roller coaster of emotions and action and reveals that left your head spinning and kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next. The final chapters leave you hanging on the edge of a cliff and waiting none to patiently for The Resurection to release and wrap up this exciting, dark, steamy, and unbelievably crazy story of the dark underbelly of Miami crime. Emma Wilder was great as the tortured Beau, and John Hartley sounded exactly like Jason Statham who I could absolutely picture as the perfect James Kelley. Sexy, tourtured, lost, driven, and unhinged, these two characters demanded a stellar performance and John and Emma delivered. Anxiously awaiting The Resurrection!!

Glad I gave it a chance!

The female narrator’s voice sounded so robotic when I first started listening. I almost gave up and traded it in. Thank goodness I gave it chance and kept listening. The Enigma was a perfect continuation of the series. I can’t wait to listen to The Resurrection! Danny & James in one whole book??! Yes please!

Only gets better!

I just love how the story is intertwining leading up to the final book ressurection. I love Danny Black and Rose on book 1 and now we have James Kelly and Beau on book 2. On this story however, beau sometimes got my nerves. The other characters Ollie and Goldie had some good banter. I have not started the final book, but I know this series will be in my favorites and surely will be in my list of must read again because it's so good . And yes, this series is all credit worthy!

I loved the first book and expected a lot from this. The beginning was hard to keep me hooked but I stuck with it and as it went on it got better and better.

Another Swoony male by Jodi!

Have to say at first book was somewhat slow moving for me but it definitely delivered! This being the second installment of the unlawful men series has me ready for the return of Danny Black.

I can’t wait to see all the crazy both James and Danny can bring to Miami!

Beau’s tragedy and the manner in which she was dealing with it drove me nuts in the beginning but seeing James’s perseverance and need for her to calm his inner beast was beautiful.

Being a longtime Jodi fan she definitely delivered with the hidden information making you think you know what’s happened for but throwing a curve ball right when you think you’ve figured it out!

The narrators were amazing!!
