About this listen

New York Times best seller

Erin Sterling casts a delightful spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong.

“A delightful and witty take on witchy mayhem.” (Popsugar)

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

story is pretty entertaining. typical boy loves girl, girl loves boy and don't want to admit it. but it was very descriptive and detailed and definitely got me in the Halloween mood. overall I enjoyed it and finished it in one day!

great easy going story

For all the reviewers that are saying the narrator is ruining it…I just don’t hear what you do. I think the narrator has a clear voice and I did not mind listening to her at all. If Vivi’s character sounds pathetic…it’s because the author makes her that way. Almost 10 years on from a 3 month relationship when she was 19, the main character seems like she never emotionally recovered or developed from it, but how would we really know because the characters are sorely lacking in dimension. And, the magic aspect of it all is just so disappointing. There is so much potential but it’s disconnected and silly rather than interesting and fulfilling. How many times can she describe magical things as “witchy”?

Definitely not the worst story I’ve ever heard, but not the magical escape I was looking for.

The narrator is fine, it’s the story that’s the problem

This is a fun, engaging story, and the narrator has the perfect delivery. LOVED IT! I want more from this author and this narrator.

LOVED IT!!!

Nothing very new or exciting about this book but it was a quick easy read. You didn’t have to think tj much while listening to it. The main character was pretty likable and the male love interest was respectful and not one of those dominating jerk types. My main gripe with it is the narrator. She turns up her voice at the end of each sentence and it feels like an incomplete though every time. It was honestly so hard to get through I almost stopped listening a number of times. Also the male lead was from Wales and was supposed to have an accent as evidenced in the slang used in dialogue but the narrator didn’t do any accent or attempt at changing her voice really. The story was fine but definitely get a sample before you sign on to the whole book.

Cute easy read

This was a fun, cute story line but the narrator is really distracting. Too over enthusiastic and her version of Rhy’s is just outright cringey.

Fun cute story, narrator takes away

I enjoyed this book, but it was so hard to get past the horrible narration. Thankfully the second one has a different narrator!

Good Story, Horrible Narration

Narration was awful. It was almost as if the narrator tried to make the lead character Vivian’s voice sound melodic and alluring, but just ended up coming across as vapid and uninteresting. And the conversation between the two love interest was confusing at time’s considering the male character from Wales had no accent. Great for a cozy fall read but I’d opt to purchase the book instead.

Enjoyed the story but

This book was underwhelming to say the very least. If I read it myself I maybe would have liked it. But the narrator was horrendous.

I should have read it myself

I had high hopes but the romance feels like it was written by someone who has an aliens concept on romance and sexual relations. You know how 50 shades of grey a spicy scenes that feel written by somebody who has never had those experiences . That, if u never ever touched a human before u won’t notice it. Also there is some appropriative language with the magic usage on this book. Your still writing about things that exist and have modern day ancestors using these magical elements. If ur writing a magic system just drop the appropriation and make up stuff. Don’t take thing that are set in real culture and not bother to research it.
Voice acting top notch, she worked to save the book with her performance

Cheesy

I loved the story, at times the narrator’s voice sounds a bit off but overall the book kept me hooked.
