Publisher's summary

Love is the trickiest spell of all.

Lucinda Caraway loves living in Freya Grove, the mystic seaside town where charms, hexes, and magical beings of all kinds are the norm. She spends her days teaching high school history and her nights reading tea leaves and tending to her conjure garden. It’s a good life . . . but she can’t stop wishing for more.

Until one night, that wish turns into a spell, and suddenly Lucy can’t say no. Not to a public karaoke performance. Not to running a 10K. And, most alarmingly, not to her high school crush, Alexander Dwyer, who needs her help unjinxing his new house—which just happens to be right across the street from hers.

Alex has spent the last ten years traveling the world on adventures Lucy has only ever dreamed of, and he’s planning to leave again as soon as his house is safe to sell. But until Lucy can unhex herself, she and Alex are stuck together. And with so much magic in the air, maybe the next spell Lucy casts will be the one that convinces him to stay.

great book. awful narration.

Book is cute and cozy and I definitely plan to follow this author and read other books she puts out. I just hope they change the narration in the next book. Luci's voice is... dramatic... to say the least and Alex's just doesn't fit.

Decided to Read Instead

I really wanted to listen to this book on a leisurely train ride, but the narrator for Lucy was definitely over doing it. They just didn’t seem like a good fit. The inflections were overly dramatic for some of the moments. I decided to buy the book and read it myself.

Such a good story

This was not my normal type of romance but I enjoyed it a lot. Lucy, her sisters, and her cousin cast a wish spell and things started to go haywire. At the same time Alex, her old friend and high school crush was back in town.
Lucy was living the life she always dreamed but it was not without its issues. She had fallen for Alex knowing he wasn't going to stay in town.
Mermen. Witches. Gnomes who want food.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

An enchanting New Jersey Tale

A delightful autumnal romance set on the Jersey Shore. It’s cute, and found many of the themes relatable, like balancing the desire to be rooted and free spirited. Also, I love the Black romance.

The lady narrator though sounded AI generated. I had to look if it an actual actor or robot.

Gonna read instead as well

The voice actor was a bad choice. The dialog didn’t match the voice. Nope. Returning.

Good for background sound

It's a good story and it's a good performance and it's... just average all the way around. Definitely not a bad listen, but it won't be the favorite in your library.

Cute and cozy!

The plot was sweet and made me smile, and it was a bit spicy! The female narrator read everything as if it was sultry poetry, but that really didn’t work for the writing.
